Michael Koffman?
Michael Koffman who is A Fellow of the Washington DC based think-tank Center for a New American Security which is funded by Northrop Grumman?

I'm not having a go at you Zichan, and I know you said "according to" ..but..

This conflict has amazed me how often people quote paid "analysts" who belong to organisations that are hopelessly and obviously slanted, and indeed who's very foundational goal is to spread a particular "message"..as if what they are saying is not propaganda, but The Truth.
What else do you expect in war? Everyone is going to be biased one way or another.

Unlike most analysts, Mike has been several times on the battlefield lines in Ukraine. Just 10 days go he visited Bakhmut to witness first hand the intensity and complexity of the urban combat taking place there at considerable risk to himself.

At what point is it better to just build a new tank rather than restoring and upgrading the mothballed ones? All the systems they are adding to the t-62 is almost like building a new tank, but on a 50-60 year old chassis.

The simple decision done by them to upgrade those tanks showing that tit is cheaper to upgrade them than to make new one.

I mean, they have better planning and capacity analyisis capacity than us , I presume. And more data.
Like capacity/cost of the machines sond so on.

He's also born Ukrainian so that's vested interest there. But it's because he got so many things wrong about the Chinese military is the main reason he shouldn't be cited in these forums.

Leopard 1s? Are you sure? I thought it was Leopard 2s heading there

If thats the case, we used to have a couple hundred Leo1s here in Canada and some MEXAS uparmoring packages for them that say use in Afghanistan. i wonder if they are still laying around somewhere

Russia retained more remanufacturing and repair plants plus a big chunk of the original manufacturers were also turned into repair plants, so there is likely a surplus refurbishment capacity over newbuild ones.

Leopard 1s? Are you sure? I thought all the rage was about Leopard 2s heading there from Europe
Turned out a lot of the countries offering Leo2's weren't that willing to give them, but are more willing to pay for repairing Leo 1's i storage.

im not so surprised by that. Its a logical choice really, but these are only 105mm guns and terrible armor. The Canadian Forces deemed them woefully inadequate for anything more than direct fire support during our tour in Afghanistan, totally obsolete for facing modern battlefield. It resulted in their replacement by Leo2s, and as with everything CF procurement, we got shafted on that deal too
