The War in the Ukraine

Interesting, how come no one has brought up Su-57s against F-16s? How many Su-57s does Russia current operate?

How would NATO AWACs help detect Su-57s or guide SAMS or F-16s to intercept Su-57s? Wouldn't Su-57s just pick apart F-16s given advantages in stealth and BVR missiles?
I don't think Su-57 is a quantifiable threat with the number they have...

Any R-37 and other LR missile carriers could lobe missiles from Belarus, Crima and Russia on anything that lift-off and climb in altitude to pose a threat. Mig-31 could do the trick or Su-35 too. S-300 and S-400 coverage is a pain too.

It's clearly more about missiles coverage against f-16... nothing will dogfight above Ukraine when SAM are shot at anything that moves. Even Russian aircrafts don't dare to enter Ukraine beside at very low altitude.

Probably 8-12 as of now

The numbers are too limited, i doubt they would be deployed on the frontline, probably deployed in a less combat concentrated area

Correct me if I'm wrong but do the current Su-57 carry any missile other than R-37 that could outstick the AIM-120C? Even for R-37 I think it needs to be carried externally.

I think satellite imagery last picked up 5 su-57s in operation in Ukraine from close by RuAF airfields in December. If they are used like mg-31 lobbing R-37 missiles from far away I don't see any way for F-16s to counter.

But neither can the f-16 really deal with mg-31s either, without the normal support that the West will put in a strike package, f-16s in a vacuum are unlikely to significantly affect the outcome of the war.

I think F-16s are a bad choice for the Ukraine. This isn't the 80s where they were the dominant fighter. I'm surprised they aren't talking about A-10s which can at least take a beating.

In any case, it's quite interesting that they have enough fighter pilots still in good health to still receive fighters and manning them. Efficency of ejection seats are quite a blessing. If not, they will be mercenaries/Nato pilots.

The war is a good way for nato to degrade Russian capabilities using Ukrainian blood. It's a good trade.
Russians are also getting training and refine there systems. if there was no HIMARS. how would they know to refine Pantsir?.
similar case with so many different drone attacks. Its good trade off of slow motion prolong war where reliability of systems are also tested along with the people you selected who are building and maintaining them under 24/7 conditions.
