Meh, its a limited scope war, at least from Russia's perspective. They're not committing everything and are keeping plenty of reserves for future skirmishes with NATO.Question for those who know their history: If you had to guess where Russia stands closer to right now? closer to the Russia of russo-japanese war or the Russia of post 1941 war against the Nazis.
If you want to compare, it will probably end up somewhat similar like the USSR-Finnish war.
In the initial stages of war, nazi led propaganda constantly embellished Finnish "victories" while Russia itself had an information blackout on what happened on the front until the final stages of the war.
Turns out, historians later would vindicate both sides. The Finnish had created a remarkably strong defense line which was much more strategically sound than the Maginot and their mobilisation was succesful. And the Russians had done a good job in breaking their lines using effective rolling offensives despite adverse weather.
Question is if Russia really is only going for the claimed territories, or if those are merely a pretext towards greater designs on the Ukraine.
