The War in the Ukraine

And? Brimstone is a ASM that for some reason has been transformed into a surface to surface missile. Converting it from an aerial platform to a ground based one defeats the whole purpose of it, what a colossal waste of money.

It has a 5kg warhead, not much in a war where 500kg warhead missiles are raining on Ukraine daily. It's basically a radar guided javelin missile with slightly longer range (10 miles) still pitifully shorter than any SRBM.

Seriously you NATO worshippers need a reality check. America could sh&t on a stick and you would worship it as a wonder weapon.

I suspect those Russian tankies would respectfully disagree with you.

Brimstone warhead: 6.3kg
Brimstone range: unknown, but less than the air launched 12km
Javelin warhead 8.4kg
Javelin range: 2.5km

Explain how brimstone is more dangerous than an ATGM.

Can be launched without seeing enemy and missiles seek their own targets. If Ukrainians know where Russian AFV's are moving all they need to do is launch.

They are nice guerilla warfare weapons in that case. But it's important for Ukraine to know where their AFV and Russian AFV are... these missiles will not see the difference.

The non-expired ones, sure.

That's a good point, too.

Can they even make use of it if the guns don't have their digital targeting computers fitted, as it seems to be the case?.

Also the article mentions says "Canada has sent four M777 Howitzers and ammunition to Ukraine.". That ain't going to change the tide of war any time soon, though.

I am not 100% certain, but I believe the digital targeting system only pertains to the gun and can adjust traverse and elevation automatically. The optical gun sight is just a backup/check.

100% sure on this though, Excalibur round GPS coordinates are programmed by electronic fuse setter, so the two are not related.

Maybe Canadian Howitzers got this system along with the crew of Canadian citizens of Ukrainian decent with large experience in using Excalibur shells. There is significant amount of Ukrainians living in Canada

Even if the Canadians gave any. It is very unlikely be in any significant numbers to make a difference. These shells are very expensive. In 2021, the US paid $80,948 per shell but it cost $176,624 in 2022 and the US only set aside enough money for ~417 shells for 2022 fiscal year.

Canada bough these to be compatible with US guns in Afghanistan, stockpiles of gps ammo is low ( low means less than 100 probably...). We have a small army here so it's clearly just a gift to look nice.

We had only 12 777 in december 2021 and bought 25 others, don't know if we got them... four is more or less a third of all the guns we have.
