Not to many people know that most of the old venerable Japanese Temple are founded by Chinese monk
Not only did they bring religion and teach the Japanese to be human They also bring their technology and craft to become the icon and defining japanese culture from tea cermony to kimono to Zen buddhism. Therefore it very galling what they did in WWII

I don't think that's the reason. Turkey isn't in the mood to do the US any free favors these days. Turks take their ethnic connections with the Turkic Uyghurs very seriously, as well they should. But this is creating a problem in this case, which can and should be solved.

I think that Pakistan can facilitate a rapprochement between China and Turkey, by helping both sides find common ground and compromise. China will benefit greatly from Turkey joining its Belt and Road initiative, as Turkey occupies highly strategic geography. Turkey will be able to rely on China as it looks to strike an independent foreign policy from American interests. And Pakistan will regain its lost land bridge to Turkey, via Central Asia, which was broken because of Iran's revolution.

I think there is a lot of potential benefit for all three parties here, and also for the region as a whole.

No they shouldn't, unless they want to lay a claim on XinJiang they can go suck it, thank you very much. China is an atheist country and that's how its going to stay.

Now that wages are getting more expensive in China, many labor intensive industry are migrating to the south west border. To take advantages of cheaper and plentiful labor
I am glad that China facilitate this trend with better border control and more generous rule allowing those worker to partake in China's prosperity and deal with them with dignity and generosity
Here is the story how China border control goes digital since getting passport is too costly and difficult for these people. that is what a great nation do china is still poorer compare to Japan but she is definitely more generous. Japan too is now relaxing their immigration rule and allow other asian to work in Japan but a bit too late

Ruili's pioneering policies make for good neighbors

Nearly six years after the border city of Ruili took the initiative to allow foreigners to work and live there without needing a passport, the small city in Yunnan province, facing Myanmar, is planning to take another step in that direction.

The city plans to make changes in its employment procedures for foreigners to improve efficiency with the introduction of a "smarter" work permit, the local government said.

The permit is a card called the bao bo in Chinese, the name transliterated from the word for brotherhood in Burmese. The new system will merge three permits required of foreigners-a resident card, a health card and a work card-into one.

The new card would have all the holder's information digitized on a chip connected to their cell phone, making it possible for them to complete the application or update information on a mobile device with internet access.

The first of the new cards, also the first of its kind in China, is expected to be issued by June.

"It is unprecedented as we have broken the international protocol of using passports. We are forced by reality to think outside the box," said Shao Yongbao, director of Ruili's Foreigners' Service and Administration Center, which issues the cards.

Known as the Shenzhen of the southwest region after the manufacturing hub in Guangdong province, Ruili was one of the first cities to open up to neighboring countries, including Myanmar, in the 1990s. With China's economy becoming a global powerhouse, the city has seen a growing number of job hunters from Myanmar.

Almost one-third of the city's nearly 200,000 residents come from Myanmar. Many of them don't have a passport because of the difficulties of obtaining one in their home country, Shao said.

In 2013, the center was created in an innovative move by combining officials from the local police, customs, social security and health departments. Foreign applicants were allowed to go through the process at one place, using one form with just their national identity cards.

"The purpose is to help more people obtain a legal work permit while not intimidating them with a lot of red tape," Shao said.

The center's officials said they had given out more than 110,000 work permits, valid for one year, as of the end of 2018. Holders of the permit can be employed only within Ruili.

U Sein Win Aung, chairman of China-Myanmar Friendship Association, praised the system during a recent visit to Ruili as a way to "guarantee foreigners' legal rights" and "a boost of confidence to pursue a better life" in China.

It has also been widely adopted by a dozen border cities in China.

To help foreigners better adapt to life in the country, a school called the China-ASEAN Education and Training Center was established in 2014. Backed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the school offers free lessons including Chinese language, laws, regulations and disease prevention. ASEAN is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

About 18,000 people have taken classes at the part-time school, which provides tips as basic as the meaning of the three colors on traffic lights.

While the effect of the training is hard to evaluate, Luo Hailin, the center's director and a professor at Yunnan Minzu University, said it is very worthwhile.

"The friendship and respect passed on to Myanmar is invaluable." Luo said. "It's tangible evidence of more than 60 years of friendship between the two nations."

Zhang Mingjie, general manager of the Ruili factory of Youngor, one of China's best-known men's apparel brands, said its effectiveness can be seen in the factory's turnover rate.

He said the factory, which now employs 500 or so workers from Myanmar, used to have farewell parties every month. The company has seen few resignations this year, after it started to work with the center.

"It helps them to better connect with local residents, adapt to life and feel like they have a home away from home here," Zhang said.

"It has already become my second home," said Ma Chu, 28, a Myanmar worker at Youngor who has been living and working in Ruili for four years.

She is the highest-paid seamstress at Youngor's factory, with a monthly s

Much better and more practical than self righteous threats of sanctions and empty human rights lectures from you know who since that rohingya crisis on the other end of their border.
Democracy on empty stomach won't go distance. It's laughable when you hear some certain people say China doesn't have the kind of soft power they supposedly have.

THAILAND will sign a memorandum of cooperation with China and Laos for a rail link aimed at fulfilling a regional connectivity ambition, when Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha visits Beijing this week for the second Belt and Road Forum, the Foreign Ministry said yesterday.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith will sign the pact with his Laotian counterpart Bounchanh Sinthavong and China’s vice chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission Hu Zucai on Thursday on the sideline of the forum.

The memorandum will detail the framework for the three countries in relation to the railway network from southern China via Laos to Thailand.

The pact will also cover the construction of a new bridge across the Mekong River linking the Laotian capital with Nong Khai province, Vilawan Mangklatanakul, director of the Foreign Ministry’s International Economic Affairs Department, said.

China has invested in and is helping Laos build a 400-kilometre railway track from the China-Laos border to Vientiane. The construction is halfway through, while Thailand’s 3.5km high-speed railway is also making good progress.

Prayut, attending the second Belt and Road Forum from April 25 to 27 in his capacity as Asean chair, will update the forum on the Asean connectivity master plan, Vilawan said.

The junta’s brainchild – the Eastern Economic Corridor – will also be promoted at the forum to lure investors, notably from China, she said, adding that the plan is to transform the Kingdom into a regional supply-chain hub.

China’s President Xi Jinping launched the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013 to link his country with other countries via many infrastructure development projects.

So far, 124 countries and 29 international organisations have signed cooperation pacts on the initiative with China.

The first summit on the initiative was held in 2017, while the second forum this week is expected to conclude with a joint communique to forge cooperation among regional countries.

Prayut is to meet with Chinese President Xi and his counterpart, Premier Li Keqiang, to update them about Thailand's role as Asean chair and other bilateral issues, Vilawan said.

Connectivity has emerged as the key element of regional development, and Prayut yesterday joined Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to inaugurate a new railway link on between the two countries at the border towns of Aranyaprathet and Poipet.

The two premiers also witnessed a signing ceremony at a Thai border post before riding together to the Cambodian town of Poipet on a train donated by Thailand.

Hun Sen described their journey as “historic” and thanked Thailand for its efforts “to reconnect Cambodia and Thailand”.

The rail link will also serve as a connection between Laos and is Southeast Asian neighbours, Hun Sen said.

Bilateral trade between Thailand and Cambodia currently stands at $6 billion (Bt190 billion).

It is ironic Trumph built wall and impose tariff on Mexico restricting movement ofpeople and goods While at the same time China built bridges literally and symbolically to facilitate free movement of goods and people Here is one example

HARBIN, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Two sides of the first highway bridge connecting China and Russia across the Heilongjiang River were joined together on Friday.

Measuring 1,284 meters long and 14.5 meters wide, the bridge across the Heilongjiang River, known in Russia as the Amur River, stretches from Heihe, a border city in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, to the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk.

It is a key part of a 19.9 km-long highway project that starts from Jilin-Heilongjiang expressway and ends at a highway in Blagoveshchensk. An estimated 2.47 billion yuan (about 358 million U.S. dollars) will be spent on the whole project, with 566 million yuan from China and 1.9 billion yuan from Russia.

To ensure project quality, steel girders that withstand as low as minus 60 degrees Celsius were used by Chinese and Russian builders in the frigid region, together with 60,000 sets of steel bolts with high weatherability for connection.

The highway bridge was first proposed by China and Russia in 1988. Construction of the bridge began in December 2016, and is expected to complete in October.

With the help of the bridge, the passenger flow between the two cities is expected to reach 1.4 million by 2020, triple the current figure. Cargo volume will see a 10-fold increase to 3 million tonnes.

The growing economic ties between Moscow and Beijing could prompt the Kremlin to harden its stance towards Washington.

While the trade war between Washington and Beijing continues to flare up, Chinese president Xi Jinping traveled to Russia this week for three days to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and meet with Russian president Vladimir Putin. For Moscow, this visit could not have come at a better time.

In his public remarks while in Moscow on Wednesday, the Chinese leader spoke of the growing ties between Russia and China, while also offering thinly veiled criticism of the United States. Xi

the importance of Sino-Russian solidarity at a time when “protectionism and unilateral approaches are on the rise, and a policy of force and hegemonism is increasingly taking hold.”

Xi arrived at the St.Petersburg International Economic Forum on Thursday, an annual event aimed at attracting foreign investors to Russia, with a

Beyond symbolic gestures of unity, the two countries signed a number of high-profile deals. Huawei and Russian telecom company MTS reached an

While a Sino-Russian convergence has been taking place since at least the 1990s, it gained significant momentum after 2014. Faced with mounting Western sanctions over its annexation of Crimea and support for Eastern Ukrainian separatists, the Kremlin made pivoting to China a top foreign-policy priority. Russian political elites hoped that drawing closer to China would provide their country with an alternative source of trade and investment, as well as send a message to Washington and Brussels that Moscow did not stand alone.

Five years later, the record of this effort is mixed. On the one hand, trade between the two countries undoubtedly increased. China is now Russia’s

At the same time, Chinese investment continues to lag. Even Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov

for the Russian economy suggest that this unequal dynamic is unlikely to change soon.

However, many in Moscow saw the emerging trade war between the United States and China as an opportunity to become an indispensable partner to Beijing. Andranik Migranyan, an informal adviser to the Russian presidential administration and professor at the Moscow Institute of International Relations, told the National Interest that Trump’s moves on trade will push China to align itself closer with Russia.

“If the Chinese previously staid on the sidelines, now they will probably more actively support Russia in opposing the United States because China now finds itself under very serious pressure,” he said. “There is an understanding that if [Russia and China] will not resist the United States together and simultaneously, then the United States will destroy them separately.”

Migranyan hopes that a China increasingly aware of Russia’s importance will facilitate greater access to the Chinese financial system, increased Chinese importing of Russian energy, more Chinese investment in the Russian economy, and a continued deepening of military-technical ties between the two countries.

Moscow also hopes to use the opening created by the U.S.-China trade war to increase its economic opportunities inside of China. Vasily Kashin, a senior research fellow at the Higher School of Economics Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies predicted that Russia will gain more access to the Chinese market as its direct competitors, the United States and its allies, exit.

“Although the Sino-American trade war is as a whole bad for the global economy and could negatively affect Russia through falling oil price, it could also open new opportunities for increasing Russians exports to China.”

Should economic ties between Russia and China continue to grow, then they will likely embolden the Kremlin to harden its stance towards the United States. Migranyan proclaimed that a closer relationship with China “makes Russia more resilient in resisting the United States.” He stated that if Russia felt that China firmly had its back, then it would feel less compelled to offer concessions on possible areas of compromises such as Syria or Iran.

When Xi Jinping left Russia on Friday, his rhetoric and the deals signed during his visit provided Moscow with optimism that the Sino-Russian relationship was entering a new stage on more equal footing. All the same, Russia still faces a steep uphill climb in increasing Chinese investments or its exports to China.

Nevertheless, Migranyan contends that Washington’s growing tensions not just with Beijing, but also with Iran and Europe will ultimately benefit Russia. He told the National Interest, “The American policy of war against everyone at the same time very much plays into Russia’s hands, and for that a big thanks to Trump and his administration.”

I don't know where the MSM get the idea that Chinese are Stealing, cheating, or duping people ? The chinese that I know are honest. They were successful exactly because their client feel they are treated fairly and come back for more business. This is drilled in our consciousnesses since childhood. They are good people even when they are rich they never forgot where they come from
"Honesty has always been our family’s byword" Koh said, adding that it has remained the family’s first rule in their personal and business lives. The principles of family discipline, an emphasis on filial piety, uniting family members, conducting oneself virtuously, have all had a subtle influence on the Koh family across the generations.

Cultural Legacy: Overseas Chinese and Ancestral Halls

In March this year, the Koh family returned to their hometown in Chaozhou, flying from Singapore to China, the oldest member of the family already in his 80's.

In the 1920s, Wilson Koh's grandparents and two great-uncles emigrated to Singapore after traveling across the sea from the town of Fa Yang in Chao'an County, Guangdong. After enduring many hardships, life finally settled down, and the family grew and prospered. Today, the Koh’s family history in Singapore spans four generations, but tradition and custom still links the family to their ancestral home. Every year, on the first day of the second month of the lunar calendar, the Koh's return to their hometown to pay respect to their ancestors.

"We still have a large extended family back home" Wilson Koh said. Ancestral Day is an important family event, with members from all across the globe gathering here for the festival.

The tradition of Ancestral halls

More than 20 years ago, when Wilson Koh first stood in front of his family ancestral hall, he was first drawn to the beautiful and historic architecture. But as time went on, he came to realize that the hall also housed an intangible heritage that has been passed on from generation to generation.

Seven years ago, Koh family in Singapore contributed a great deal of money to support the renovation of their ancestral shrines back home. The Koh Ancestral Hall was also renovated in Singapore. During the renovation project, the family placed emphasis on preserving the family’s historic teachings, and set out the family’s rules and precepts in a prominent position in the hall, preserving the historic teachings for future generations.

Around Tomb Sweeping Day every year, many overseas Chinese will return to their hometowns to pay homage to their ancestors and visit their graves. Worshipping at these ancestral tombs or at the ancestral shrines, the drumming, burning incense, toasting wine are all ancient rituals paying homage to one's origins.

At the end of this year's ceremony, the Koh family invited a Chao Opera Troupe to perform two consecutive nights in the village.

During one of the performances an 80-year-old villager expressed his thanks for what the Koh family had done for the village. This touched Wilson Koh deeply.

The Koh family began to invest in Shantou in the 1980’s, undertaking many social welfare projects. In order to provide care for the elderly left in the village, funds have been donated to build schools and for the establishment of a Recreation Centre to provide care and a recreational space for the elderly in the village.

In recent years a new generation of Chinese living in Singapore have been increasingly visiting their extended families in China, and Ancestral Halls have played an important role in connecting Chinese living in Singapore with their ancestral homes.

Listen to this ex deputy prime minister of Thailand He said Thailand and China we are family It is more than culture it is in the blood . He also said in 1978 he stood in fornt of Beiking hotel and there is nothing there just people man and woman riding bike wearing the padded jacket of blue and grey No car to speak about And he come back recently and he was amazed by the change. He said I want to know how china do it

I don't know why MSM said China does not have friend except North Korea

A lot of Thais are originally from China. How close is the relationship between the two countries? Do Thais see China's development a threat?

In Thailand officially the Chinese population is only 10% but if you count people who had Chinese ancestry than probably half of the population are of Chinese descent specially in urban center like Bangkok, China Mai and Songkla, etc. And they are beautiful people man and woman
Even socalled native Thai are from Xishuangbanna in Thai Sipsong panna meaning 7 rice terrace
