Correct, the JL-9 exists in its two-seater version. However, the J-7MF never existed except for models and on paper.
Hypothetically the J-7MF could be developed, and the JL-9 single seat could be produced relatively quickly.

they have already done that it is called JF-17/FC-1.
Its an all metal airplane but with potential to do everything. poor man's Gripen if you will.

probably the J7s currently in service are still too new, when they retire, FC-1 will start selling well. Afterall, FC-1 is just a heavily modified J-7, buying it as a replacement will be an easy adoption, since its parts and characteristics will be very similar to J7.
Chengfei needs to restart the J-7 line. One J-7 sale is one F-16, one Saab, one Mig-27, or one M-2000 less t in the world. J-7's can make a country with small GDP & defence butget still having a decent fighting airforce. If China keeps selling J-7's, F-35's & F-22 only good for rich boys. By the way, do you expect that Laos is going to fight with American F-22's?

That is a tall claim indeed. I am afraid CAC would not be amused by this. All the effort that went into FC1 was just a making of a 'heavily' modified J7?
This has been discussed to death in other threads and other forums. Indian posters have bitten the dust every time. The thinking / philosophy behind Mig21 and FC1 might be similar, but there is nothing to support your conjecture at all.
What is the wisdom of spending time in useless daydreams about relevance of J7 in this era?
let's see as it is right now vanilla J-7 has no decent radar no range and no payload capability worth mentioning.
so it can't fire bvr, can't fire standoff missiles. and can't patrol long range. tough time hit anything at night or bad weather or anything one can't put an eye ball on it. and low speed and alttitude good luck hitting anything.
anything that needs J-7's speed and manueverability is by default way out its league. if you are sending j-7 up against anything potent you might as well pack and leave the country. 'caus some superpower wants a regime change.
only thing it can really do well is get some fighter jockey wanna be some supersonic time in good weather.
you are better off served with a lead-in trainer like K-8. even cheaper and lower operating cost and who knows may be your pilot is competent enough so he can start to wack some rebels with its rocket pods.
