If I'm some Russian billionaire oligrach I would definitely get myself a Zubr and redo the entire thing in civilian luxury. Why settle for some superyacht when you can have a superhovercraft? :)
Of course the problem would be range.. can't go too far.

I think that noise levels in that superhoveryacht would be so high you would not even hear your drinking. :D

Does China not have the requisite technology to build an indigenous amphibious hovercraft?

What is so special about the hovercraft such that it requires it to be acquired through a foreign vendor?

The biggest problem facing China is the suitable turbine engine, other than that the LCAC paired with 071 LPD proved they can build something like that.

What China really want from Zubr is probably some key component tech that can be re-purposed into improving current indigenous LCAC designs.

timeline for this doesn't really work, unless they somehow stole Russian design more than 5 years ago.

But also, Zubr should be more complex than Type 726.

Wow! I think everyone here just missed the point, we seen from A.Man post #83 page 6 that the Ukrainian facility shows a second Zubr under construction and quite far along, no one else has ordered a Zubr which means that's China second unit

If these pictures are authentic it means it's the 3rd Zubr, and if there's a 3rd there must be a 4th as per the deal

This means China is planning on taking on board 4 Zubr Class LCAC which again adds to China already good amphibious capability

4 loaded Zubrs can transport the equipment of a Infantry battalion, sending that in a fast move to a nearby island is a huge advantage

I hope this answers all your questions. Zubr is a special animal, however, the problem with Zubr is no LPD of reasonable size will ever fit this monster. Cause it was never meant to launch from a LPD, however given China's doctrine, it's a hard fit.

If the Chinese version of Zubr has longer legged and able to RAS out at sea then this beast will be much more useful than what it's thought originally.

If its operational radius allows it to make a round trip from Hainan to the contested atolls (at least those large enough to support an airstrip) in the South China Sea, then it has a niche in the PLAN operational scenarios.

Of course some would still maintain it's for the invasion of Taiwan or Diaoyu, but as we all know, only the most uneducated mudak would actually give that thought a second.
