......100 Israeli civillians were killed.

If i am not wrong it's few dozens. 30 + to be more precise. 118 soldiers side. However i am not implying that low casualties mean Hizbollah was reluctant to hit civillians.

^ Then the question becomes, can the Iraqis or the Taliban learn anything from Hezbollah? Is it impossible to duplicate Hezbollah's tactics in the deserts of Iraq? (Although it seems Afghanistan may be more suitable.)

Also, you have in Lebanon both Shia and Sunni uniting against a common foe. Could this stimulate an unnatural alliance in Iraq too?

Obviously. It's guerrilla warfare. Though, the Taliban are now in a limited number, it's very hard for them to keep up their political influence and keep up with their manpower. Iraqi's may have the good manpower, but they need good weapons like the Hezbollah.

Above that, the terrain doesn't favor the Iraqi army. A desert like Iraq is probably the worst place to wage a guerilla warfare.

Well it looks like Hezbollah was the top winner. I think the IDF fought with one hand tied behind its back and gave away the victory.Other big winners are Syria and Iran who were backing Hezbollah.
I think Iran may be more imboldend to go ahead with there Nuclear plans. The west is seen as weak and this last war shows it.
This may seem harsh to some of you- but war is all about killing people. As soon as you try and make it into some sort of politicaly correct game- you just got your head handed to you.

I sort of agree with Dennis. Seems to me that if the Israelis had sent in ground forces from the beginning and not bombed Beiruit and other civillian (sort of) areas so vigourously this war would be considered an Israeli victory. Of course, the Israelis would have suffered far more casualties but they would have inflicted far more as well and, perhaps, there would have been time for the IDF ground forces to really make a difference by securing territory. That might have stopped or slowed rocket launches. I don't think the Army was given enough time. It should have been sent in from the beginning in place of the mostly useless air bombardment. Then the war might have had quite a different result.

I think things will get very much more nasty in the near future. I am a very pro west person and this was a big radical east victory. I say radical becouse several nations in the east, (said Hezbollah should have not of started this fight.) However- you have to stick with your bros, so in the next year things will only get worse. I think Iran only wants this to increase problem. I think we will be killing each other within the next year or so- God forbid.
So take care. I hope I will not kill you, and hope you will not kill me.
Its much more fun just to play on these boards!
But, if any of you kill me, I will stand before God and say you were a worthy enemey!

At least here the media covered quite well how Olhmer boasted around that Israels objective is to crush Hezbollah completely and they wont accept any ceasefires untill that objective is fullfilled....in light of that the war was as big victory to Israel as winter war was to soivets...only in own propaganda that doesen't fool anyone...

said Hezbollah should have not of started this fight

?? Hezbollah started this? It think it was Israel that started bombing Lebanon first...If you ment those soliders captured, well it happened in lebanons soil so Israel started it that way too, entering to sorveings lands territory is act of war...

Golly sorry but what Lebanese soil? IDF patrol was attacked in the area between Shtulah and Zarit on Israeli side of the border and Hezbollah conducted simultaneous rocket attack at settlements located in the area… Hezbollah spokesman said that they conducted cross border raid and kidnapped Israeli soldiers so how IDF started this?

Well I have seen this map and I know about speculations… But fact is that both Hezbollah and Israeli sources said same thing about location of kidnapping. And this was one of the rare occasions when both sources claimed the same thing…
