I'm not sure how many members ISIS has specifically but global numbers of jihadis and individuals who subscribe to the sunni jihadi theology number in the tens of millions. While that is still a minority percentage of overall Muslims, it is still a very significant number.

Granted most of the symphatizers may not have ever committed any violent acts however they prescribe to the same line of thinking and truthfully is just an event away or a charismatic sermon away from becoming active members. This is also part of why ISIS has been so effective because the seed has been already sown, all ISIS has to do is to give a little nudge, a lil marketing song and dance and they have potentially millions of potential recruits.

That is the danger which is why I advocate both hard and soft methods. You have to disable the spread of these ultra conservative violent teachings/brainwashing in thousands of madrassahs, maktabs, mosques, halls etc that are in two dozen countries.

kwaigonegin your knowledge on the subject is good but are missing the point

The madrasahs schools and even institutions your talking about are funded and supported by mainly one country, that is Saudi Arabia

It's like capturing all the people who do drugs and say you are fighting drug trafficking !? You have to go after the drug dealer to tackle the issue not the addicted people

Saudi funds the money to spread Wahabbi ideology which directly has been linked to terrorism, 9/11 yet no one has raised a single question about that funding

So no, no mosques should be questioned no Muslims should condemn this act, if you want to tackle it tackle the source, CIA and MI5 had a hand in setting up these schools in Northern Pakistan during the 1980s so they can be the first to apologise

This all funding of madrasahs started in 1980s to fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, Soviet Union is gone as are the Mujahideen but the second generation Mujahideen or even 3rd generation are still behind funded

Bloomberg said:
President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian naval forces in the Mediterranean to work as allies with French warships in attacking Islamic State targets in Syria as his military stepped up its offensive against the terrorist group.

France has a naval group led by an aircraft carrier heading to the area where Russian vessels are operating, Putin told a naval commander of a warship in the Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday in a live video link shown on Russian state TV. “You need to establish direct contact with the French and work with them as allies,” Putin ordered.

Russia’s military doubled its attacks in Syria on Tuesday, carrying out 34 cruise missile strikes and deploying long-range Tu-160, Tu-95 and Tu-22 bombers from Russian bases to hit Islamic State’s heartland in the Syrian province of Raqqa and other targets, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at the same meeting. The bombardment is continuing and Russia planned 127 sorties on 206 targets in the first 24 hours of the new stage of the campaign, he said.

Putin earlier on Tuesday blamed terrorists for the Oct. 31 air crash in Egypt that killed 224 people and vowed to step up military strikes in Syria to punish those who carried out “one of the bloodiest crimes” against Russians. An Islamic State affiliate in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula has claimed it blew up the plane in retaliation for Russia’s bombing campaign in Syria against the organization and other militants fighting the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

Putin and French President Francois Hollande agreed on greater military cooperation in Syria in a phone call Tuesday, the Kremlin said in an e-mail. Hollande will travel to Moscow Nov. 26 after talks in Washington, D.C. with U.S. President Barack Obama to try to build up a coalition against Islamic State following Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris that killed at least 129 people.

This is pragmatic and smart. Putin will latch right onto this because he now has a major NATO player who will work with him.

France is interested in eradicting ISIS. They were attakced by ISIS directly.

Russia is now admitting the airliner was nbroght down by ISS, and want to eradicate them too.

IMHO, it is long since past time that the US administration back away from its own feckless policy and join forces to eradicate ISIS.

I agree.. if you read my previous postings I've said similar things as well. Just like you, I know who the real backers and funders of these salafist jihadi ideologies are.

My post was more specific in addressing the 'quantities' of those who has been through the 'orientation' of these teachings.

The US needs to start focusing on one threat at a time instead of running like a chicken with it's head cut of. At this time ISIS represents a much larger danger to the free world than Assad, Iran, Hezbollah etc.

Unlike Assad, ISIS is a global threat and they operate globally with global intentions to purposely cause havoc and destruction. Even to those who has absolutely nothing to do with their perverted agendas.

The US Navy and AF have assets in place that are being used very minimally at this time. I do not see a massive ratcheting up of operations anytime soon. Unlike other wars or battles which may be controversial to some, this one isn't. This is the right thing to do and what the US Armed Forces are use for. To truly fight evil and madmen hellbent on world domination and suffering.

Again unlike Assad, Kim Jong Un, Khomeini etc, don't you think for a second that if Al Bagdhadi has his hands on a nuclear weapon and the means for delivery he wouldn't used it on a major population center? He wound't even blink an eye!

I'm of the opinion that we need to send some care packages downtown.

France has requested and received military assistance from all EU members according to article 42.7 of the EU’s Lisbon Treaty.

I think that makes NATO assistance redundant as NATO is actually an obstacle for France to act in Syria because of the objection from Russia and possibly China.

Also, since France and Russia has reached agreement, I believe France can reach some kind of understanding with Syria in terms of airspace and even airbase in Syria, that would lay down a concrete legal fundation for Frence to operate in Syria. I can see that a UN mandate being possible if France ask for it, but not needed as Syrian invitation or authorization is enough.

Sad to say, your POTUS is more interested in protecting his legacy than doing what is right. He has no interest in seriously engaging ISIL beyond what is necessary for the optics. If I were to sum up his ISIL policy it would be "minimalist containment and hope for the best". It is evident that all the ISIL targeted programs initiated to-date by this administration is bare minimum and do not reflect serious commitment to get the job done.

Whilst the number of sorties are the lowest recorded comparatively, I also understand 75 % of the sorties return to base without dropping the ordinance. The problems are lack of intelligence on the ground and stringent ROE's. This administration don't like having to deal with collaterals and the PR associated with it. Targets are time sensitive and when you have to jump through so many hoops, you don't get results.

Germany-Netherlands match called off shortly before kickoff
By CIARAN FAHEY
HANNOVER, Germany (AP) — The friendly soccer game between Germany and the Netherlands was canceled at short notice due to the serious threat of an attack at the stadium on Tuesday.

"We had concrete evidence that someone wanted to set off an explosive device in the stadium," Hannover police chief Volker Kluwe told German TV.

Referring to another bomb threat about an hour beforehand that turned out to be a false alarm, Kluwe said, "After the first object turned out to be harmless, we got a tip that had to be taken seriously that an attack was being planned."

Spectators had only just started entering the Hannover stadium when the evacuation order was given, which affected mainly stadium staff, match workers, VIP guests, and media.

Members of the German government including Chancellor Angela Merkel had not arrived, but were scheduled to attend the match to send a signal that Germany wouldn't bow to terrorism in the wake of the deadly Paris attacks on Friday.

At the time, Germany was playing France in a soccer friendly in the Stade de France, outside of which three suicide bombers blew themselves up, killing one bystander. The bombers sought unsuccessfully to enter the stadium. At least 129 people were killed in the coordinated attacks in the city.

Heavy armed Police stand outside the stadium in front of a board announcing that the match is called …
Announcements at the stadium in northern Germany advised people to go home in a calm manner, and that there was no danger to fear. Most fans were still waiting outside when the order to evacuate came about an hour and a half before kickoff.

There were no signs of panic, with most fans seemingly accepting the decision with resignation. Police became more forceful with members of the media who attempted to stay beside the stadium.

Germany press officer Jens Grittner said the team bus was redirected to a "safe place," and that was all he could say for the moment.

Security at the stadium was very tight, with police armed with machine guns and maintaining a very obvious presence in the city. Reporters arriving for the game were searched, while a sniffer dog was deployed to check their bags.

Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere was meeting with local counterpart Boris Pistorius late Tuesday when more background details were to be given at a news conference.

Tuesday's friendly between Belgium and Spain was called off late Monday following a Belgian government recommendation. The Belgian Football Association said it was "in the context of a new elevated terrorist alert and the current pursuit of a suspect."
