Just wondering if anyone else in Taiwan knows about the defence and aerospace show in taipei from august 13-16? I haven't been before but I am thinking about going, should be flying displys by IDF's, Mirage 2000's and F16 as well as lots of static displays, anyone know more about it, cost?

The slow and painful death of ROCAF's Mirage 2000 force is the result of a relentless decade long ´lobbying´ effort by Beijing aimed at shutting off any military exports including spare parts from France to Taiwan. Eventually these efforts are finally paying off and incidentally some things are trickling slowly off now...

(...yes I know; ´winning over´ bunches of thoroughly unscrupulous French politicians and officials with uncounted billions is not the kind of ´lobbying´ neat and clean little Taiwan would ever do but who cares if the means justify the ends!:))

NATO members operate a variety of aircraft, including the F-16 and Mirage F1 & 2000's. I have to ask how they handle C4ISR integration within the western-European alliance?? They're flying a lot more aircraft types than ROCAF.

For those unfamiliar with NT exchange rate, the NT 35,000 cited is roughly equal to $1050 USD (100 NT = $3 USD).

The ROC doesn't have the money for a bidding war.

@Skywatcher:
Times are indeed changing fast since e.g. Taipei secured the La Fayette frigate deal with France back in 1990/91 with up to 730 mil. $ in kickbacks deposited on swiss anonymous accounts. Interestingly several mainland officials were also bribed and there are rumours about Li Peng personally being at least indirectly involved. Possibly Beijing had planned to derail the deal, acquire La Fayette class detailed blueprint and skimming Taiwan off simultaneously but somehow failed to succeed in getting Mitterrand's socialists on board (Chirac came into office only in May '95, too late for stopping the show).

I went to TADTE saturday, pretty nice show, one interesting thing was that at the Lockheed martin stall there was a model of S-80 submarine from Spain, talked to Lockheeds representatives and they didn't say much of note, but my fingers are crossed it means something.
