Judging by the pictures, It’s possible that what had went off were just improperly handled propellant rings. 120mm mortar shell at point blank range should result in even more egregious casualties.
Taiwan soliders running in the open torwards the water in the 4th day of the Han Kuang exercise, do they have a death wish or something? when troops are landing on the beach you dont charge forward, thats stupid and easy way to get killed.
there plan to keep their fighter jets alive is to, fly them back and forth, good idea if you expect China not to use fighter jets and if you expect China not to destroy air bases, what you need to take off, also they think if they pull back their planes away from China, they would surive, do they forgot that China would use fighter jets over the island or that China is aware of their plans? they say their ready but i dont think Taiwan is ready to fight the PLA. good for the PLA though.
Oh my god they really expect a first day banzai charge from the PLA. I remember seeing an American ex-military who said Taiwan's current war strategy was just an elaborate suicide.

i mean yeah, but that training is not smart, maybe it was in WW2, but not the 21st century.
Even in WW2, Imperial Japan didn't send troops to charge marines landing at the beach.
