And it all began in Dar'a where teenagers who sprayed anti-regime slogans on walls were tortured to death...The entirety of Daraa Governorate has fallen in just the span of a day.
Pretty soon, all that will be left is Damascus and the coast.

Maybe you should look at photos of countries before they were traumatized by war and terrorism.
China used to be considered one of the cleanest, most elegant civilization from 600 AD (after smoothing out the roughness of the Qin/Han/Jin era) to 1800 AD.
By 1900 AD China was traumatized by decades of war and poverty and was reduced to something like Afghanistan.
Would you have wanted someone to condescendingly say "it is natural for the Chinese to prefer filth and poverty. Who are we to judge whether these savages truly want modernity or not? Modernity isn't for everyone."
I know its not historically accurate, but now its looking like the movie Lawrence of Arabia, where in the end it was a race to see if Lawrence's Arab guerillas or if the English army would've reached Damascus first. Now increasingly the same race is playing out amongst the Druze rebels and HTS.And it all began in Dar'a where teenagers who sprayed anti-regime slogans on walls were tortured to death...
IMO, remove the muslim facade/mask and that's how most countries' disparities looks like. The better off will always have more opportunities and chances, the worse off are how they are cause there's little choice. The top image represents an elite dot in the society, while the bottom image represents the vast majority of the country, even if you go back to 1972.
