Galactica ratings are about half of when they first started. This might be the last season because the show is so expensive to make. Plus they're making Caprica which sounds like Battlestar Galactica with all the politics but minus all the special effects.

It still lead the ratings on cable that friday night.

There is one big difference between the Stargates and BGS. The Stargates are made by a company MGM which is not owned by NBC. Sci Fi channel has to buy the license to show them. It was probably the cost of licensing that may have lead Sci Fi channel to cancel the show. MGM, a bit miffed about it, has given the nod to make two direct to DVD movies concluding the series. BGS? It's made and owned by NBC. This time, it's NBC selling the license instead of buying them. Thus more opportunities to make money, selling DVDs, iTunes...

The direct to video movies are probably going to be bad.

There was a rumor that they might move BSG to network, but they tried to run repeats on there before with very little success. But in regards to cancellation, supposedly NBC/Universal/Sci-Fi aren't happy with BSG. One of the reasons why they advanced the timeline was because of displeasure of the ratings by executives. So if ratings don't go up, this season or maybe next season is the last.

BSG should get going. Time to look for Earth.

Stargate SG-1 steals too many ideas from Star Trek. In the beginning it was really laughable. The Jafa (I know I'm probably spelling that wrong) cobra head dresses reminded me of Dark Helmet from Spaceballs.

To say that a Sci-Fi series takes something from Star-Trek is unfair. Most of the Science Fiction ideas used in many television series were established by Star-Trek, which in turn took many ideas from other Televison Series, Publications and Radio Shows. Science Fiction finds it's self very hard to be original at times.

Though you are right, The Cobra Guard's head-dresses made me groan. That probably has more to do with Budget limitations than any lack of design on their part (The Anubis and Horus guards from the movie were awesome, though). Also, while Star-Trek is one of my favorite series, it kind of wrote it's self into a corner. While it was a nice try at explaining some of the series' mysteries, some of the ideas seemed kind of uninspired. Plus, the episode with the Borg was kind of akward...And adding that S.W.A.T-Style team seemed a bit silly.

Battlestar Galactica... Great special effects but personally I can't stand how eveything about their society is too much like the US.

Lol, what do you mean the society is too much like the US? It's an American show - why bother "inventing" an entire new culture, when the audience is more interested in plot, good script writing, etc?

Yes, hummers - why bother wasting money on designing a new kind of vehicle you'll see used once or twice (and then people complain it looks silly)?

I quite like Galactica, in part because of its down-to-earth style. No silly looking clothes, titles, decorations, customs, etc. Just a sort of futuristic-Earth level of technology. Works great.

You think an alien culture would be exactly like the US? LOL!!!!!!!! Earth humans sprung up from this cradle of civilization and we only see one culture that's only two hundred years old on Earth? At least the original showed different cultures of the colonies. Didn't take much money or time to think up those nomadic assassin guys going on a blood hunt after Starbuck's father. Yeah they were cheesy looking but at least they had the creativity to think up a different culture of the colonies. BTW, the original series was an American show too. If this version of BSG was all about being proud Americans, they wouldn't have the Iraq allegory where the humans are playing the insurgents/terrorists.

You actually think when Hollywood makes futuristic vehicles, they're actually new designs? It's Hollywood!!!!!!!!

And those new human looking Cylons are really a tremendous leap in technology and not just an excuse to save money.

Actually I was talking about the plotlines of individual episodes were similar to those from Star Trek not the whole thing in general.
