Cylons don't have a soul of sort, that's why those that does seems to have one became very popular among them therefore were looked upon as a highly respectable science religious project kind of way. It helps them to explain about the human emotions more deeply.

Maybe they were planning on continuing the series but ran out of money or ratings (or both). This is such a big deal IMO that leaving this unexplained is either intended as a cliffhanger or the show just got cut before the writers wanted.

Interesting how the Cylons believed in the one true God and the humans believed in the plural Gods. There were some Cylons that did not want to resurrect as a way of finding the truth.

Your probable right on both counts. However, that does leave the door wide open for a sequel or continuation……
