First, Disney needs to walk away from the SJ ideology. Star Wars isn't the franchise for social commentary; that belongs to Star Trek. I agree that Disney needs to give writers and staff to flush out the storyline, have a memorable soundtracks (John Williams isn't going to live forever), and proper editing. Sorry Popeye, but The Last Jedi was an utter mess; getting that Star Trek 5 treatment. Second, Marvel have no problems because the storyline is already written. All it requires was adapting them for the Silver Screen.
Disney should recant their statement of ignoring the Star Wars Expand Universe, and should consult with Game Developers such as those that created the Knights of the Old Republic series. IMHO, Star Wars needs to walk away from the Skywalker Dynasty. I'm thinking, go back into the distant past, like the Hyperspace Wars or the beginnings of the Jedi / Sith Order. New characters, new storylines are needed to revive the Star Wars franchise.
