On other sci fi talk... on my six day break in Rarotonga I had some time to properly do some reading... and I devoured The Three Body Problem and The Dark Forest. Both are great books, reminiscent in scale to Asimov or Arthur C Clarke.
They require a degree of patience to truly get into it, but the payoff at the end of both are immense. The battle in the second half of Dark Forest and the final showdown at the end of the book are both breathtaking and makes you want to lie down to absorb everything.
Highly recommended, you can appreciate how Three Body earned its Hugo win. It's probably unrealistic to expect Dark Forest to also win a Hugo or Nebula next year (despite it being superior to its predecessor, imo), but I wouldn't be surprised to see it getting at least a nomination.
I'm definitely anticipating the english translation of Death's End, the last book in the trilogy next year, as well as interested in seeing how they adapt Three Body into a movie.
