Damn Trailblazers! If only the Rockets could get past them, they could handle the SA Spurs (swept them in the regular season games) and even maybe Miami as well.

Harden seems to choke a little in the playoffs... It's happened twice... He's one of the most efficient shooters in the game in the regular season, but takes 30+ shots to get 15-20 points in the playoffs... he needs to improve his mental toughness... Ask the big shot bob for some advice...

How well does regular season performance translate into the post season though. The Nets are 4-0 against the Heat this year in the regular season, and they lost 4-1. The Pacers had I think a 3-1 record against the Heat last year and lost in Game 7 in the ECF. Assuming the Rockets got past the Blazers this year, I'd be shocked if they managed to beat either the Spurs or Thunder.

Harden depends a lot on what some people will call ticky tack foul calls to be successful & efficient. He often drives & attacks the basket not with the intent to score but to draw those type of fouls, and when these type of foul calls disappears in playoff games his efficiency & impact plummets. Also his almost comically bad defense doesn't help either.

Edit
Forgot to mention the Rockets were 3-1 against the Blazers in regular season this year, but lost in 6 games in the playoffs. So personally I don't put much weight into regular season performances.

Agreed! Some teams with a lot of old players like the Spurs live for the playoffs. they don't play too hard in the regular season so as to preserve their health and then turn into a beast once the playoffs begin. So you will find teams that suddenly become so difficult to defend once in the playoffs.

And the Rockets suck the big time in defense. Since defense is HUGE in the playoffs, they likely will not succeed until they shore up the defense. but they don't have many defensive minded players...I'm not so sure about Harden's dependence on ticky tack foul calls. It seems to me that he gets similar # of calls in the playoffs. He's just not making the shots... Not 100% sure about that. need to look at the statistics...

Tony Gwynn finished his major league career with 3,141 hits and a .338 batting average, the highest mark for a hitter since Ted Williams' career started in 1939. Gwynn arrived in the major leagues in 1982, a year after the Padres drafted him out of San Diego State, and never stopped hitting, spraying singles throughout stadiums across baseball, adding power as he grew into a 15-time All-Star and striking out at an almost inconceivable rate today, just 434 strikeouts for his career over 9,288 at-bats.

The right-fielder was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 with one of the highest voting percentages ever at 97.61 (532 of 545 ballots).

My deepest condolences go out to his family.

As a long time Padre fan, since 1978, I'm saddened by the loss of Tony Gwynn. He was without equal the greatest left-handed hitter of his generation of Major League Baseball. Period.

My he rest in peace.

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - The San Antonio Spurs delivered a decisive end to LeBron James' two-year reign atop the basketball world by routing the Miami Heat 104-87 on Sunday to win the NBA Finals four games to one.

San Antonio trailed by 16 in the game's first seven minutes but outscored the Heat 55-29 over the decisive second and third quarters and were never threatened.

James, the four-time NBA MVP who led the Heat to titles the past two seasons, scored 31 points but was largely ineffective after the first quarter when he had 17 points.

"That's how team basketball should be played," James said of the Spurs. "It's selfless. Guys move, cut, pass, you've got a shot, you take it, but it's all for the team and it's never about the individual. That's the brand of basketball.

"They were the much better team."

The Spurs were paced in scoring by the Finals' MVP Kawhi Leonard who had 22 points, while Argentina's Manu Ginobili added 19.

San Antonio hit just one of its first 12 shots and trailed 22-6 but outscored the Heat 25-11 in the second quarter and led 47-40 at the half.

San Antonio, who lost to the Heat in the finals a year ago, opened the second half on a 18-4 run to seize a 65-44 lead, igniting the crowd hungry for the Spurs' first title since 2007 and their fifth overall.

A three-point shot by Australian Patrick Mills and a jumper by Duncan hiked the Spurs' lead to 75-53 late in the third quarter and the rout was on.

"It just feels like a dream to me," said Leonard. "This is my second finals appearance in my third year. I've been just progressing each year and the team has also.

"Losing in the semifinals my first year, and losing the championship my second year, and now winning in my third year, it just makes you believe in your craft and your hard work."

James hit five of seven shots in the first quarter but nailed only five of 14 the rest of the way. The Heat shot 40 percent from the floor, including just seven of 25 from three-point range.

Tim Duncan is still rolling after so many years. He is a role model for players who want to learn to stay calm when roughened up.

That's the thing that frustrates me. The Trailblazers all of a sudden got hot when they played the Rockets but got cold when they meet up with the Spurs.
