I'm no association football (soccer) fan. But I have a comment to make about the upcoming World Cup in Brasil. After seeing all the demonstrations in Brasil, stadium and infastructer problems and more recent police action

Do any of you football/soccer aficionados think the World Cup should be played in a different nation? I do. I'll leave it at that for now.

And yes it is toooo late to move the WC now.

Brazil is pretty bad but take a look at 2022 WC in Qatar. That one is just a damn shame. Infrastructure problems aside, at least Brazil has the soccer blood and culture in them. Qatar is nothing more than just a showpiece for the royal family and using basically slave labor to elevate their own status. There is no ryhme or reason why a country like Qatar should host the world cup.

The country is very small. they have no soccer history of any significance, the government is basically a dictatorship and hardly conform to the ideals of sportsmanship and are ruled and govern by a set of very strict islamic code of conduct.

Basically the ONLY thing they have going is a ton of petro dollars.

I don't think the Clippers will move out of LA. They've gained so much popularity over the last 3-4 years. They may change their name however.. that's a rumor I heard on sports talk radio.
Well, it was announced today that Sterling's wife (she owns half the team) has been given a controlling interest and management of the team ownership by Sterling.

She is in the process of divorcing him, and she will now work with the NBA on the disposition of the team.

I think this will be for the best all around in the end. We shall see what comes of it.

I found this article about the issues concerning the 2014 WC. It is very long so check the link.

Brazil was awarded the WC in 2007 and is still not ready with the WC starting on June 12th. 3 of the 12 stadiums are not and may not be completed

My interest in the WC started because I follow stadiums at skyscrapercity.com. I have little sporting interest. If the US or Mexico wins I'll be happy for a few minutes.

If the US was awarded the WC last summer no stadiums need be built. Only stadium dates would need to be set and perhaps some minor modifications..and of course travel arrangements and accommodations.

My fantasy list of US stadiums for a WC to be held this summer.

All these stadiums meet FIFA standards..I think.:p

CenturyLink Field Seattle WA

Rose Bowl Pasadena CA

University of Phoenix Stadium Glendale AZ

A T & T Stadium Arlington TX

Reliant Stadium Houston TX

Arrowhead Stadium Kansas City MO

Soldier Field Chicago IL

Mercedes-Benz Superdome New Orleans LA

Sun Life Stadium Miami Gardens FL

Raymond James Stadium Tampa FL

M&T Bank Stadium Baltimore MD

MetLife Stadium Sat Rutherford NY

There are many others stadiums in the US that could host a FIFA WC event.

The 1994 WC held in the USA still holds the record to total attendance.

What about that new stadium for the SF 49ers? That looks nice.

Great idea.. That stadium can hold a FIFA match. It could replace the Rose Bowl...but..

The Rose Bowl is finishing up reconstruction right as of now. It will be finished soon...maybe..

In fact this match below will be played at the refurbished Rose Bowl;

Do you think they will ever go with the plans to renovate the LA Coliseum to bring back an NFL team to the Los Angeles area?

A nope. Why?

1) The Coliseum while historic and worth saving is in a "poor location". That's putting it mildly.
2) the NFL has no interest in placing a team in the LA Coliseum.
3) Two major stadium plans have been approved (kinda sorta) in the LA area but as of yet not a shovel full of dirt has been turned. Why? No NFL team has made any commitment to move to Los Angeles.

Perhaps, but lets give Brazil a chance to show the world what it could do. I remember when South Africa won the hosting of the FIFA World Cup and they get a ton of media flack of all kinds that "they're Africans....they can't host an event like this". I think Brazil will do fine.

I believe the main stadium will see seven games played on its new ground.I think that's expecting alot from a newly created
field.

Anyone thinks the Heat can win 3 in a roll? Not me! So go Spurs! I have always been a fan of the Big Fundamental! Go Duncan! It's about time for a Texas team to get an NBA championship again! I wish it would be Houston, but San Antonio would be my next choice (maybe not as good as Houston)...

Damn Trailblazers! If only the Rockets could get past them, they could handle the SA Spurs (swept them in the regular season games) and even maybe Miami as well.
