New render of Hyundai-Rotem’s [8x8] Armored Fighting Vehicle and Main Battle Tank concept; the project is still in the concept phase however it serves to better illustrates the direction that Hyundai-Rotem and the Korean defense industry may be taking in the future.

South Korea Launches Satellite With Its Own Rocket for the First Time​

The launch brings the country closer to its ambition of becoming a player in the space industry, no longer reliant on technology from other countries.

"The three-stage Nuri rocket, built by the government’s Korea Aerospace Research Institute together with hundreds of local companies, blasted off from the Naro Space Center in Goheung on the southwestern tip of South Korea at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Seventy minutes after the liftoff, South Korea announced that Nuri had succeeded in its mission of thrusting a 357-pound working satellite, as well as a 1.3-ton dummy satellite, into orbit 435 miles above the Earth."

It kind of reminds me of US Thor rocket in shape. Still this is a big deal for South Korea. Since their prior satellite launch used a Russian first stage. This uses all South Korean components including engines. Now it remains to be seen if my prediction of South Korea surpassing European space launch industry will come true or not.

The South Korean aircraft manufacturer Korean Aerospace Industries has begun ground testing of the KF-21 Borama fighter. The plane was created as a cheap alternative to the American F-35 fighter. Borame does not have internal weapon hardpoints needed to reduce visibility. This does not allow it to be attributed to the fifth generation of aircraft. At the same time, he will be able to fly faster than the F-35, accelerating to a speed of Mach 1.9. On an external sling, the aircraft will be able to carry up to 10 missiles.

The aircraft actually belongs to the generation 4 plus fighters. The manufacturer claims that the radar of their aircraft is better than that of Russian or Chinese aircraft, although it is not clear how they came to such conclusions, other countries except Russia do not have exact information about the capabilities of the Su-57 radars. It is alleged that in total, at the points of external suspension, the KF-21 will be able to carry up to 7.5 tons of bombs, missiles or external fuel tanks, increasing the range of the vehicle. Such a load is quite at the level of the American F-35 and noticeably more than that of the F-22.

The aircraft is equipped with an active phased antenna array and software at the level of fifth-generation aircraft. There are also optical and thermal imaging passive systems for searching and aiming at enemy aircraft. The KF-21 in the Block 2 version will receive large compartments for the internal placement of weapons: this will reduce its radio visibility to the level of the F-117, and the Block 3 version will receive even lower radio visibility, closer to the F-22.

Constant comparison with 5th gen when it's not, somehow also says it's better than others in radar when no information is given from either side. That guy is a clown.

Well. in terms of Radar it's actually hard to say. I do make my own estimates tho based on available information mostly from Korean papers posted in Bemil-Chosun.

The published paper so far indicates a Medium PRF operation which suitable for target detection in all aspects. Thus making it kinda similar as AN/APG-66 approach (The radar have peak power of some 17KW.. but short pulse). range wise in such mode it's about 130 km with PD-90% against a target with 3 Sqm RCS SW-1 target. This put the radar as relatively better range wise than AN/APG-83 but outranged by APG-79 and big boys like AN/APG-77, 63V3/82 and Irbis. But obviously better than baseline N001 of Su-27 family and of course N019 radar.

Well J-10's first flight was sort of covered in similar detail... but footage released long after of course.

Korea and China just have very different security and OSINT concerns. Frankly it is simply how things are and so we are only left with the assurance that China's abilities are above what is being shown and what is allowed to be revealed. South Korea doesn't have to worry about any superpower attacking it or learning enough about things to build intel.

Grainy photos from a distance is the best we can get for a prototype flight. It's quite open of China to even reveal a prototype flight to be honest lol. As for anything strategic or worth keeping secret, forget about it... we're lucky to hear whispers and hints months/years after successful trials and flights. I mean it was only in recent years China released videos from the 1960s to 1980s of Chinese ballistic missile tests and even ballistic missile interceptors. Same with old aircraft factories, nuclear facilities and so on. If China could prevent details of space launch activities and warship constructions, it would even do that. Honestly even today, China embodies the hide your strength and bide your time philosophy to national progress. Let the enemy roll around in their own propaganda and their own self created misinformation. Reality is more important than feelings and egos.
