North Korea accuses U.S. of hurting relations with South

UNITED NATIONS — North Korea accused the United States Monday of undermining the prospect of improved relations with South Korea and the revival of six-party talks on its nuclear program by escalating “hostile” military activity and policies.

Pyongyang’s deputy U.N. ambassador Ri Tong Il said at a news conference that the North’s nuclear weapons are not a “political bargaining chip.”

He warned that as long as the U.S. continues “nuclear blackmails,” North Korea will continue to take “additional measures” — which he refused to disclose — “in order to demonstrate the power of the self-defensive nuclear deterrent.”

Ri contrasted the welcome the international community gave to February’s high-level talks between North Korea and South Korea that led to a revival of family reunions and “great expectations of the entire Korean nation toward wide-open dialogue, easing of tensions ... reconciliation and unification of the country” with the U.S. refusal to halt military drills with South Korea as Pyongyang requested.

As North Korean and South Korean representatives were meeting, Ri said, the U.S. flew nuclear-weapon carrying B-52 bombers over South Korea “undermining the climate of change towards relaxation.” And while separated families were meeting at Diamond Mountain, the U.S. went ahead with drills that included nuclear-armed submarines and the newest missile-carrying destroyers, he said.

Using the initials of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the country’s official name, Ri said the United States is intent “on politically eliminating the DPRK as a regime, economically stifling the DPRK, and militarily annihilating the DPRK.”

Without naming President Barack Obama but referring directly to him, Ri said, “As long as the U.S. government is in pursuit of so-called strategic patience, dreaming of the change of DPRK, the DPRK will take and exercise high degree of patience, waiting until a man of normal and reasonable vision and idea enters into the seat of ... the White House.”

The U.S. Mission to the United Nations had no immediate comment.

North Korea walked away from the six-party nuclear disarmament talks in 2009 over disagreements on how to verify steps the North was meant to take to end its nuclear programs. The U.S. and its allies are demanding that the North demonstrate its sincerity in ending its drive to acquire nuclear weapons.

Ri said U.S. preconditions are a pretext “to justify their rejection of the dialogue.”

“DPRK has been treating and remaining open to six-party talks without setting any preconditions,” he said. “And still DPRK is open, but I don’t believe ... U.S. will come to the table.”

Since pulling out of the six-party talks, the North has conducted a long-range rocket test, its second-ever nuclear test, and most recently launches of short-range rockets which Ri called a “routine exercise.”

Last month, a U.N. commission of inquiry warned North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that he may be held accountable for orchestrating widespread crimes against civilians in the secretive Asian nation, ranging from systematic executions to torture, rape and mass starvation.

Ri said the DPRK’s National Defense Commission issued a statement on March 14 calling for the U.S. “to roll back all its anachronistic and outdated hostile policies” including its “human rights conspiracy” against North Korea.

He claimed the U.S. paid nongovernmental organizations to go to North Korea’s border with China, abduct and brainwash citizens from the North and then send them to South Korea for further brainwashing so they can be used in interviews. As for North Korean defectors, he dismissed them as criminals fleeing justice.

Put the USAF in the serious "trash hauling" business, lots of other Air Forces to follow, my Dad LOVED this airplane, and flew the A, B, E, and EC-130e, Combat Talon, before retiring in 1972. He would brag and brag on what the 130 would do, he had flown the T-6, T-28, B-25, B-26, C-45, C-123----hated this stinkin bird, and the C-119, which was a good airplane, apart from the props which had a tendency to "run-away", once in the A model, he had all the horsepower he ever wanted, flew the C-47 at Sewart AFB, in Tenn. stated it was the most "overated airplane" he had ever flown, couldn't wait to get back into the C-130.

The Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) has taken delivery of its 15th Gumdoksuri-class Patrol Killer Experimental (PKX) fast-attack craft (FAC) Park Dongjin .

The delivery was revealed in a statement by South Korea's Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) on 28 March. The vessel was produced indigenously by Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction and was handed over to the naval command in Jinhae-gu, 410 km south of Seoul.

Park Dongjin is the third vessel of this class to be delivered this year. The boat followed deliveries of the 14th vessel, Kim Changhak , on 28 February and the 13th vessel, Han Musik , on 27 January.

Yes, the 15th has now been commissioned. The ROKN has a decent build program for these, building the "A" variety at two different shipyards. They have commissioned 15 of them in less than six years.

For a 570 ton patrol vessel, they have a very fast top speed, a good sensor suite, and very good armament for their size.

Displacement: 570 tons
Speed: 41.5 knots
Crew: 40
Armament:
1 x Hyundai Wia 76mm gun
1 x Doosan DST dual 40mm gun
4 x SSM-700K Hae Sung anti-ship cruise missile
4 x Shingung KP-SAM MANPADS

Nice pictures. One of a live-fire exercise with P-718 firing its 76mm gun, the other of P-711 at sea.

South Korea suspects 2 crashed drones from North Korea

The Associated Press

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — South Korean officials said Wednesday they suspect that two unmanned drones that crashed recently near the border with rival North Korea were flown by the North on possible surveillance missions.

A drone crashed on frontline Baengnyeong island Monday when the two Koreas fired hundreds of artillery shells into each other’s waters in a flare-up of animosity over a long-disputed sea boundary between the countries. On March 24, another drone crashed in Paju, a South Korean city near the land border with the North.

Preliminary investigations found that the two sky-blue small aircraft were both rudimentary drones equipped with Japanese cameras that cannot send video or photos in real time, said Defense Ministry spokesman Kwon Kihyeon. The drones can only take still photos and have to be retrieved to obtain the images, he said.

South Korean officials suspect the drones were from North Korea because Korean-language letters on their batteries are written in North Korean style, Kwon said.

Kwon said the drones took pictures of Seoul, Paju and other areas near the land border, but refused to say which specific sites were taken.

South Korean media reports, citing unidentified military officials, reported that the drones were taking pictures of military facilities on Baengnyeong island, the South Korean presidential office and a highway linking border areas to Seoul.

The reports said North Korea has been operating unmanned drones since the early 1990s.

In March 2013, North Korean state media reported that leader Kim Jong Un inspected a drill of “super precision” drones assaulting simulated targets. In July, North Korea displayed drones capable of launching strikes in a military parade in Pyongyang, according to state media.

The two Koreas have been divided along the world’s most heavily fortified border since the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty. About 28,500 American soldiers are stationed in South Korea to help deter aggression from North Korea.

Well it's got the ROK concerned word is one of these two flew over the Blue House, And given how busy the airspace over Seoul is and there small size it be hard to keep track of these little buggers.
