Japan and Indonesia held their first “two-plus-two” meetings of foreign and defense ministers in Tokyo on Thursday, agreeing to work on a pact that could allow to Japan to export some defense weapons and technologies to Indonesia.

The two countries also agreed to hold the meeting once every two years, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi told a joint news conference at a Tokyo hotel at the summit’s conclusion.

“This meeting opened a new page for the bilateral relationship between Japan and Indonesia. This is historic,” Retno told reporters through an interpreter.

“I believe Japan and Indonesia can contribute to security and safety stability of this region,” the minister added.

Japan has been making more active defence overtures to nations in the region, as well as freeing themselves to export weapons.
I'd hesitate to call many of those agreements as anything near a military alliance at this stage, but simply standard partnerships. Many of SE Asian nations have decades of experience in hedging their bets between major powers, and they'd be fools to refuse military cooperation with Japan when they have nothing to lose from it and a bit to potentially gain.

Bangladesh, new 035/Ming for 2016

Two submarines would be inducted in Bangladesh Navy by the middle of the next year to turn it into a three-dimensional force, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said.

She made the disclosure while addressing the President Parade marking the passing out of Midshipman-2014/A and DEO 2015/B batches of Bangladesh Naval Academy at the academy parade ground in the capital on Wednesday, reports BSS.

The prime minister said setting up of a submarine base and its related infrastructure is underway, while the construction work of the country's biggest naval base with aviation facilities has begun at Rabnabad in Patuakhali.

A total of 53 midshipmen including one from Sri Lanka and 24 Direct Entry Officers (DEO) got commission this year.

Midshipman Fahim Uddin Sakib adjudged as the best midshipman and received the 'Sword of Honour' while acting sub lieutenant M Rehanurzaman received the Shahid Moazzem Padak for best academic result.

Midshipman Zahid Hossain Kabir got Bir Shrestha Shaheed Ruhul Amin Gold Medal while Midshipman M Reazul Islam received Naval Chief Gold Medal for acquiring highest standard in the professional and educational subjects.

The main port is to Chittagong where almost all warships are based, the new for SSK is to Pekua Upazila.
