If rumors or Xi'an are true they'd better rename the site Copenhagen next week…
Why engines?
They're arguably the most (likely) understood part of the whole reveal.
Might be more suited for the Chinese engines thread, but what were your baseline expectations (program timeframe and maturity) on the Chinese aeroengine industry and how did they change with the 3-engine J-XD reveal?I'm not talking about the engines for this specific aircraft, I'm talking about the Chinese aeroengine industry overall and the baseline expectations and operating assumptions for them.

No trolling here, just replying to an asinine comment. You do realise all jet engines smoke?
Thank you for explainingIt was likely dumping excessive fuel before landing. You can see the chase plane making a turn so it would land after the J-XS.
Regarding the powerplants - Since we know that the WS-15-equipped J-20A (and maybe J-20S too) is expected to enter serial production in 2025, perhaps at least a couple of the engine production lines have been converted/in the process of conversion from WS-10C production to WS-15 production by now.
I wouldn't be surprised if both the J-XDC and J-XDS took off within the past week (20 - 27 December) with WS-15 engines from the get go. That said, it might be safer to be conservative until more concrete information comes to light.
I was watching it live and saw all the comments scrolling by when it happened. Besides the "yes MSS officer these guys right here" there were also lots of people saying they could tell who ever wrote that must have a lot of respect for Yankee's reliability. With commets like "that 'even' part is saying a lot".
