And they're exporting all that smart brain power to US by gaming H-1Bs. Partly explains why things are kind of slowing down over there.

Anyway, how significant would be the gap between this and the J-35s beyond all aspect stealth?
I'm thinking that China doesn't trust the CCA concept, they don't think drones are mature enough to be useful in the sort of roles US has been trying to put them into in the last few years.

So this fighter is to act as a manned CCA to the J-36. Even if it doesn't have any more surprises than was shown, it's still going to be the best medium to short range a2a duelist out of all known fighter jets. Just by virtue of being essentially a F-22 with all aspect stealth and 2024s electronics.

That means when it interfaces with the J-36, it can achieve incredible results.

Since it has the 2D TVCs, the only engines we've earlier seen with those are WS10C. On the other hand theres also nothing saying nozzles couldn't be integrated on WS15.

There were some rumors saying WS10Cs would be used for at least 1 of the projects in the prototype stage. It makes sense since that's the one that has readily available TVC and since the Shenyang design has TVC.

I mean if you're trying to see what engines it is based on the low speed exhaust smoke, it might as well be powered with imported F119s

Do we know for a fact that the SAC bird has TVC?

It just looks very heavily like so.

F-22 for comparison.

Also this J-XS photo is unfortunately super unflattering, it looks like a flying Mercedes Benz logo. Someone said that when viewed from a more neutral angle, it resembles the folded version of the X-02 from ace combat. Can't wait until more angles drop on this thing.

Haven't seen a photo of a cockpit on this plane yet (unlike the other JH from Chengdu), which makes me think it could be the "UM" in the MUM-T. A fast moving long range UCAV that can accompany the JH-Chengdu.

Yeah, some leakers said that SAC will be very aggressive in the unmanned tech. Perhaps this time is an unmanned model? Unmanned models can serve as loyal wingman nodes for JH-C, or manned and unmanned models can team up on aircraft carriers.

For the record, where did the rumors of the SHENGAD being carrier-capable come from?

The initial belief was that this was in competition with the J-36 for the next-gen PLAAF fighter contract, but seeing how different the SHENGAD is from the J-36 in not only configuration but also size, it looks more and more likely that this is meant to fulfill a different fighter niche within the PLAAF or PLANAF.

It being carrier oriented would essentially dispel rumors about a fly-off between this and the J-36, which would also be without precedent in China.
