Why is this such a big issue? Most of the western internet calls it J-50, even Huitong thinks it might be called J-50, not to mention this designation is widely used on CHINESE internet, which pretty much trumps everything. Plus there is the H-20 bomber that most seem happy to call it that way even if we haven't seen it flying yet.

Is the aircraft really called J-50? We might not really know yet, but i think there are more important things to follow about this aircraft than needlessly trying to police it's designation on the internet. Certainly i'm not going to go J-XDS this and J-XDS that when discussing it.
What would be hilarious is if they officially named it J-58

I have encountered such nomenclature problem elsewhere before, but long story short, imo it's better to just point out what's inaccurate about using J-50 instead of policing it.

It’s not about, but why then using a most probably false designation instead of an abbeviation like JXX then for the J-20? Then even a funny name like „Paula“ would make similar or even more sense.

And do I really need to explain why J-50 is Most likely inaccurate?

The issue here is the mods neglected to provide a name in the title. And so people wind up randomly adopting names they find on the internet. I believe if J-XD, J-XS, or J-XDS was in the title, then whichever name is up there would naturally become standard within this forum. And if becomes standard here, it slowly leaks out elsewhere.

Even though none of those 3 names are official, their use of "X" instead of numbers makes it abundantly clear they are only temporary placeholders. It's no different than the JH-XX or F/A-XX.

That is far better than "J-50" which tricks casuals into believing it's the official name. Literally nobody knows where "J-50" came from. Every person that insists on using that name simply shrugs their shoulder, and say they heard it from someone else. It's a classic example of how misinfirmation spreads. Every person that uses "J-50" perpetuates that poor practice.

And then there's "SHENGAD". The name is perplexing to casuals unless someone explained its history to them (Shenyang + NGAD, and possibly a reference the CHAD meme). I also don't like it because it's shamelessly aping the American concept NGAD. I don't believe any other country uses "NGAD" in reference to their next generation aircraft.

Tyler covered the new SHADE photos in an article, though nothing special caught my eye.

But he still can't let go of those two X-Planes that never had any pictures released...
If china said their 6th gen has been flying for five years, everyone online will be crying that's fake and where's the video proof.
But somehow USA does it.... it is #FACTS
