Can we please stop using the designation J-50???
Why is this such a big issue? Most of the western internet calls it J-50, even Huitong thinks it might be called J-50, not to mention this designation is widely used on CHINESE internet, which pretty much trumps everything. Plus there is the H-20 bomber that most seem happy to call it that way even if we haven't seen it flying yet.

Is the aircraft really called J-50? We might not really know yet, but i think there are more important things to follow about this aircraft than needlessly trying to police it's designation on the internet. Certainly i'm not going to go J-XDS this and J-XDS that when discussing it.

As a frequent visitor of the Chinese internet myself, I can tell you that it is certainly not the case.

This is especially when no credible PLA watchers on the Chinese side of the internet referred the J-XDS as J-50.

What's being most used instead is Cheng-6 (成6) or South-6 (南6) for J-36, and Shen-6 (沈6) or North-6 (北6) for J-XDS. Admitedly, the J-36 is also often used given that we've already saw the "36011" marking on the J-36, but no such case exists for the J-XDS.

Because the PLA(AF) is already acknowledging it as H-20.

Thanks for your insight, and you may be right especially for specialist military knowledgeable posters but for instance look at the results here when typing J-50. This designation is what i use anyway when trying to find stuff on Bilibili or Weibo, and this is what i based my statement on.

Same is with Weibo, you get plenty of results back for J-50. Not trying to win an argument (in this particular case i think it's a ridiculous one anyway), just trying to make a point.

I know you're saying what you've been seeing thus far, but here's the point - Who are they?

Are they the official pages of the relevant authorities (PLA/PLAN/PLAAF/PLAGF/PLARF) or associated organizations? Or are they comparable to the likes of the Guancha Trios, Adorable Whale, 1000-Year Emperor, etc in terms of reliability, credibility and reputability in the field of PLA watching and commentary?

If not, then how they name the J-XDS is their own problem. We shouldn't be led by them.
