Fitting a new engine type to an aircraft is not like changing a video card in your computer. The process will require some redesign of the aircraft but more importantly, flight tests have to be done all over again. That will take a couple of years to finish. It is simply not worth it to do that on J-10A when they are already working on J-10B which is even better.

Yes, when Singapore retrofitted it A4S J-65 engine to F404, the whole engineering process took 3 years to complete. equipping the whole squadron will take even longer. It not as easy as many think and resources could be better spent elsewhere.

I don't think for the sake of rivalry, they would compromise national security by not giving the other aircraft the engine it needs. The rivalry does play a role, but just as other suggested, the most likely explanation is that J-10 was originally designed base on AL-31 and it is just not cost effective to replace them with WS-10 anymore, when what you have is working well.

What is more likely is that J-31 and all other new aircraft in the future will be using purely domestic engines.

You have underestimate the matter of rivalry in china. Of course, shenyang can't outright say we do not want to supply engines to rival. They may simply give the excuse of not producing enough to supply chengdu. Plus, now is not wartime or crisis situation. The top people in PLAAF may deem is reasonable enough to let J-10A continue AL-31 engine.

One simply buys AL-31Fs for the new build J-10As and as spares for the old the Su-27s and J-11As because there is no possible combination of idiots in the procurement department who would authorize the retraining, retrofitting and reequipping costs for switching over from the AL-31 to the WS-10A for planes (and their respective units) already acclimatized to the AL-31 on a PLAAF wide basis, regardless of whether there were 50 or 500 spare WS-10As lying around.

Change the infrastructure base not only entails money, it entails downtime that would affect PLAAF readiness dramatically. The CMC will not accept that.

Besides, buying all those AL-31Fs keeps the Russians happy.

What about this one?is there anybody doubt his exists and performance?:p
Nope...no doubt that the PLAAF has made successful and impressive take-offs, extended flights, and landings with their prototype J-31. The insignia issue was explained in any case back when that discussion took place.

And, OBTW, could you change your screen name? Profanity and attacking other people's nationality is not allowed on this forum...and your screen name is clearly doing just that. Thanks, in advance.

Creating a new account is probably the easiest way to do it. Otherwise you'll have to wait until we get this thing sorted out.
