close up of the wing and vertical
now that you mention the absence of pitot, i hope this bird can fly sooner

From the very beginning (when the airframe was on route to the stress testing center), the rumor has been that it would fly in September. But the latest rumor is that due to delays with the stress testing, the first flight will be postpone into early October. So either way, it will fly soon.

look these are news and actually you just want to hide the sun with a single finger, the news were:

"Intruders from China hacked into computers and stole the blueprints for America’s new joint strike fighter planes, the F-35 and F-22, according to the chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Management.

if you do not like the news is not my problem, and yes actually not only Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) made the statement on cyber security but also Lockheed Martin Corporation, Northrop Grumman Corporation, and British Aerospace and Engineering reportedly all have experienced penetrations from hackers based in China in the past three years.

of course you do not know 3 years are enough to make a prototype, you like it or not 3 years is enough to make a prototype.

To give you an example work on JSF started in november 1996 and by 2000 the prototypes were ready

That's a really good point. 3 years is definitely enough.

I'm not so sure that it means anything though since the J-31 is not only twin engined, but seems to have a different weapons bay layout too. The engineering to change the internal layout of a plane to that extent, wouldn't be worth the effort if all you're going for is something that looks the same as some other plane. You could just copy pictures of the F-35 if you wanted looks, no need for stolen data, lol.

Critics also said that the J-20 was based on stolen f-35 data. That only gives them 1 year. :( .

I sure as heck hope this bird isn't a copy of the F35. Otherwise It would be an over weight, under performed, over budget, delay after delay fiasco! :)
As far as the cyber espionage, i am not sure what the bitching is all about. Everyone is doing it and U.S. is definitely among the front runners: Pentagon has dedicated cyber warfare unit!

kyanges, I don't mean to pick fight with you. I just really don't get it. Three years is enough for what? For digesting all the details and putting togather a couple of models and then putty them through thousands of windtunnel tests? And also for God-knows-how-many-times of tests and fine-tuning on the VLO aspects? ...And if it's that as easy as copying and pasting (as the morons love to say), why the heck can't any others have done it the easy way as the Chinese do?

And I agree with for the rest of what you said.

You should know better than to write offensive comments aimed towards a certain group of people -TUP

No I'm not talking about big-mouthed, good-for-nothing Indians, I'm talking about the good old Europeans, Russians, etc.

I think kyanges is just trying to be sacrastic... LOL

Totally agreed! And I won't bitch about Americans doing it. Instead, I'd respect them for their capability and think more of how we can emulate, and catch up with, them.

Now, I actually still like the J-20 much more than this J-31 because I belive the former is what China really needs and it's a far more thoughtful design and of far more refined workmanship. What I like about the J-31 is more about the fact that China has reached this critical level in designing, manufacturing, and project managing.
