Russian company unveils new Su-57 fighter missile capable of turning around 180° in the air at military forum, 08.16.2023.

Sputnik visited the International Military-Technical Forum Army 2023, where it was possible to get acquainted with the models of new Russian missiles.

This type of armament is developed by enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex that are part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation (KTRV).

Aleksei Elesin, head of the Missile Engineering Department of the Vympel company and one of the developers of the new rvv-MD2 missile first presented at the exhibition, spoke to Sputnik about this advanced weaponry.

"The RVV-MD2 is a short-range air-to-air missile specially designed for the Su-57e multifunctional fighter. during the development phase of the new model, the designers were tasked with creating a universal weapon, the universality of which is the possibility of being placed both inside the fuselage of the aircraft and on an external suspension," said Elesin.

However, the new missile has other distinctive features, the head of the Missile Engineering Department stressed.
"In addition, for the first time on a missile of this class an inertial guidance system with radio correction and a self-guided thermal search warhead of the target were installed.

This allows the pilot to launch the missile towards the air target, then it [missile] enters the flight path and makes the acquisition of the target itself," the expert explained.

"Despite the similarity in appearance of the RVV-MD2 with its previous version – this is a completely new product with a new electronic 'stuffing' that has retained all the advantages. And the maximum range of the missile has been increased to 50 km," Elesin said.

At the same time, the new missile is one of the most maneuverable. He is able to turn right after launch.

"The main distinguishing feature of the RVV-MD2 is the ability to turn 180 degrees after launch. This is achieved thanks to dynamic gas control," he concluded.

This missile is basically the AIM-9X block 3 but operational.

But is it truly „in service“!?

Anyway, some fine images of a production Su-57:

Su-57 could very well be on the cusp of entering service. The thing is, reports from Russia have stopped being as transparent as they were before the war. Plan was to proclaim initial operational capability in early 2023, according to Butowski. While that may've slipped, it's still plausible that might happen in the summer/fall of 2023. 10 airframes isn't a lot, it's barely enough to form a tactics development and training unit, but given that Russia will operate smaller numbers altogether, and given the urgency they might be experiencing - it's not impossible that, for example, 6 or so airframes might be relegated to test and training for now, with 4 transferred to an actual frontline unit. With the expected delivery of further airframes at the end of this year to bolster both units by a few airframes. Sliusar, UAC official said in early 2023 that deliveries for 2023 will exceed those for 2022. Which amounted to 4 airframes. So we might be looking at some 6 or so airframes delivered by the end of this year. If the Su-57 is not about to enter service, it might do so by the end of this year.

Probably according to the company statement in article, "JSC Gos MKB Vympel named after A.I. I.I. Toropov. The design bureau has developed and has already put into mass production the latest short-range missiles of the fifth generation RVV-MD2 for Su-57 fighters."

Only reason I called it a Aim-9x block 3 was because of the range increase and the 360 degree coverage engagement of the missile if getting launched. I am hearing a set production for the Aim-9X block 2 for August 2026 but no idea on block 3 which is said to increase range of the Aim-9x to 50-60% more which is what I guess the Russians meant by being 5-10 years ahead since RVV-MD is like 0.3-40km range and the AIM-9 was listed at .6-22 miles and bumping that up to 50-60% range with LOAL would give us a general idea for comparisons between the 2.

MOSCOW, August 30. /TASS/. The fifth-generation fighter Su-57 hits targets at a distance of 120 km during the NWO, and aircraft missiles are expected to arrive in the near future, which will be able to hit targets at a distance of up to 300 km, a source in the military-industrial complex told TASS.

"In the NWO, the Su-57 solves problems with high quality, effectively hits targets, its distinctive feature is low visibility. Today, the fighter operates at a distance of 120 km, in the near future they are waiting for the arrival of aircraft missiles for high-speed air targets at a distance of up to 300 km," the agency's interlocutor said.

The Su-57 (according to NATO codification - Felon) is a fifth-generation Russian multifunctional fighter. The aircraft is designed to destroy all types of air, ground and surface targets. The machine has a supersonic cruising flight speed, intra-fuselage armament, radio-absorbing coating (stealth technology), as well as the latest set of onboard equipment. The intellectualization of the Su-57 systems allows him to take on some of the functions of the pilot, including piloting and training the use of weapons.

too bad no types of missile specified. But for some reason i feel it's like air to air missiles, maybe izd-180, while soon to come "300 km" range missile would be izd-810.

have to disagree on multiple points here.
1. 120km to a 300km increase, 120km is like the most common range for any source talking about a R-77 missile on a simple google search.
2. The K-37M always existed or any of its variations with that range and has always existed as a carry on option for the Su-57 based on 100 or so articles(If I was to pretend to take your word for it that this is the 1st news article that talks about the Su-57 equipping the K-37 besides 100s of other articles that already told me this with that 300km range) . They seem to be treating this as something exclusive when such air to air missiles like this always existed as options for the Su-35 Su-57 and Mig-31.
3. K-37M is for aircrafts like AWACS, I dont think AWACS are classified as high-speed targets if I read that paragraph correctly.

Now if we are going to question credibility of tass, not to pour salt in some open wounds but there were many doubters in 2018 talking about internal hypersonic air to ground missiles on the Su-57 until a few years later they gave a codename to the missile called Gremlin. Just want to help "some" people not repeat the same mistake staying on one path than being open minded.
