Russian Su-57 Aircraft Thread (PAK-FA and IAF FGFA)

you are generally speaking very pro-Russian though and will report back whatever their website tells you. Even though aircraft makers frequently have to revise what they tell the world since delays are common in this industry. So I think to be objective you have to get past the PR that defense ministry or military industrial complex tells us.
I was not biased, true i accepted Sukhoi statements right away, but honestly why i should have done differently? i think the issue was they do say the true because they only say facts, i mean they do not risk speculating or saying things that might risk their reputation, only that

MOSCOW, December 30 - RIA Novosti. Business Insider experts have compiled a list of 11 aircraft, "change the rules of the game" in the world of aviation. PAK FA (T-50) was in the top three rankings.

"Moscow believes that the Russian multipurpose fighter of the fifth generation PAK FA (promising aviation complex tactical aviation) T-50 or Su-50 can beat the main rival - American F-35s - on key parameters such as speed and agility" , - analysts say the publication.
Plane plans to put the service in 2016, experts say. Once a fighter reaches the state of readiness, he will become the base model for creating these export models. His modification of the Su-50, together with Russia is already developing India. In the future, customers may become the model of Iran and South Korea.
"Technologies for advanced drones and fighter jets spread beyond the United States and Europe and other countries, including China, Russia and Iran will be able to beat them in the air," - the analysts to make predictions.

The Sukhoi T-50 (PAK FA), Russia's stealthy fifth-generation fighter, has been named as one of the best warplanes the world has ever seen in a list of "the most game-changing" aircraft compiled by Business Insider.

"Though still in prototype, Moscow thinks the Su-50 will ultimately be able to outperform the F-35 on key metrics including speed and maneuverability. The stealth capabilities of the Su-50, however, are believed to be below those of the F-22 and the F-35," the media outlet observed.
Earlier this year, defense analyst Dave Majumdar expressed the same idea when he compared the T-50 and the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, the first fifth-generation jet in Washington's arsenal. Both planes have a lot in common and could come out victorious in an aerial battle. The F-22 is indeed superior when it comes to stealth.

The T-50, Russia's response to America's most advanced aircraft Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, is a single-seat, twin-engine multirole fighter designed for air superiority and attack roles. The aircraft is expected to replace the aging Mikoyan MiG-29 and Sukhoi Su-27.

Reports suggest that the T-50 will enter service in late 2016 or early 2017.

"Once the plane is combat-ready, it will serve as a base model for the construction of further variants intended for export. India is already co-designing a Su-50 variant with Russia, and Iran and South Korea are possible candidates to buy future models of the plane," the media outlet noted.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II and the F-22 top the Business Insider's list. The F-35 was meant to be the best aircraft ever built but things have not gone exactly as planned.

"Problems with everything from the plane's software system to its engines has both delayed its deployment and contributed to its astronomical price tag. And it isn't nearly as effective in some of its roles as existing aircraft," the media outlet noted.

When we apply judgement upon a statement, the assessment is not based on whether the facts are true but whether there are sufficient truth values resident in those facts. For example, when an official says that the plan is to introduce the T-50 into service in 2016 or 2017 it may be true from the standpoint that there was a prior intention to do so based on a set of plans that were put in place to effect that possibility. The problem is that over time and based on ongoing development delays, that plan and intention is no longer realistic and hence the truth values behind those facts have significantly diminished. When you insist the official statements are factually true, you are ignoring the facts on the ground that diminishes the truth values behind those statements.
Whether you agree or not, the Russians do not have a high reputation regarding what they say because very often what is said do not corroborate with facts on the ground and this inevitably damages their credibility.

MOSCOW, December 30 - RIA Novosti. The Russian fifth-generation fighter PAK FA (T-50) can be equipped with is developing in the Russian radar, based on the use of radio-optical phased arrays (ROFAR), adviser of the first deputy general director of Concern "Radio-electronic technology '( KRET, ROFAR software company, is a "Rostec") Vladimir Mikheev.

Photonic technology greatly expand the possibilities of communication and radar ─ their weight decreased by more than half, and the resolution will increase tenfold. Ultra-wideband signal ROFAR allows you to get virtually the TV picture in the radar range. Radiofotoniki technology, in particular, should open up new opportunities for improvement "smart skin" on Russian airplanes and helicopters of the latest generation.

"The output of our work on ROFAR will get a full list of aircraft - manned and unmanned - which we plan to offer equipped with radar-based radio-optical phased arrays. I think that the PAK FA will also be on this list and it will be given to specific proposals "- said Mikheyev reporters, adding that the final decision will take the Department of Defense.

The project ROFAR based KRET laboratory was established radiofotoniki. Concern has already begun to laboratory tests to create ROFAR. Designed for 4.5 years the work is on schedule, which was agreed with the Foundation for Advanced Studies. As reported in November, RIA Novosti deputy general director Igor KRET Nasenkov, the company intends to establish a full-scale sample of the future radar until 2018.

T-50 (PAK FA project) - Russia's fifth-generation aircraft equipped with a fundamentally new avionics, and promising radar with a phased antenna array. The first flight took place in 2010 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, the first public demonstration of a fighter - in 2011 at the Aviation and Space Salon MAKS in Zhukovsky near Moscow.

KRET was established in 2009. The main directions of its activity - development and production of complex systems and avionics for civil and military aircraft, radar airborne, the state identification, electronic warfare systems, instrumentation for various applications, electrical connectors, connectors and cable assemblies. Among the developments KRET - a family of ground-based electronic warfare "Krasuha" aircraft systems group and individual protection "Khibiny", "Vitebsk" and "Arm-AB" mobile small-sized radar "harmony."

man that is all relative, but i won`t change your point of view, keep it, i will keep mine.

Radio optical phased arrays significantly extend the capabilities of modern communication and radar - their weight decreased by more than half, and the resolution will increase tenfold.

"ROFAR allow us to see the plane, located 500 kilometers away, as if we are standing 50 meters away from him at the airport, his portrait in the baseband. Moreover, if needed, this technology will look in the aircraft itself, to know what kind of people and Appliances are there, because the signal can pass any obstacles, even lead-meter wall, "- he said Mikheyev told reporters.

What is a 'Photonic' radar? Whats the difference compared to present radars?

I have not looked into it but I would guess from the name it is based on photon particles/light based wavelengths versus current radio wave systems in use. Edit - I was going to leave it at that but it can get confusing because it is all technically EM at different wavelengths; the difference I suspect would be in the type of particles used and how they are directed and tracked by the emitter. Clear as mud? :)

I'm not well versed in electromagnetics, but while quickly looking over this stuff, I have come across ideas of using visible spectrum lasers to generate radar frequency range pulses. Especially in the high-resolution, high-frequency range that seems to allow for the prospect of much "cleaner" radio pulse generation with less noise then todays (?) analog-digital up/down conversions of frequencies.

It somehow seems to allow for ultra wideband frequency generation very quickly as well. Thereby adjusting the signal to what is best suited for the task.

I also came across the concepts of interferometry and frequency to time mapping, apparently yielding much greater resolution than todays radar technology.

If anyone can comment on that stuff ... ??
