October 14, 2022
On October 14, the second serial nuclear icebreaker of project 22220 "Ural" left the outfitting embankment of the Baltic Shipyard (part of the USC) and headed for the Gulf of Finland, where it will begin the program of factory sea trials.
For the next three weeks, the commissioning team of the Baltic Shipyard, together with representatives of counterparty organizations, will check the operation of the mechanisms and equipment of the icebreaker.
The specialists planned to conduct a set of tests, including the operation of the steam turbine plant, the ship's electric propulsion systems, the operation of the shaft lines and deck mechanisms (anchor and steering gear).
The speed and maneuverability characteristics of the icebreaker, the functioning of general ship systems and automation systems will be tested. In addition, an important stage of sea trials will be the verification of navigation and communication systems, as well as the operation of the helicopter complex.
The universal nuclear icebreaker Ural is the third vessel of project 22220 being built at the Baltic Shipyard. The laying ceremony took place on July 25, 2016. In November 2018, 2 RITM-200 nuclear reactors were installed. The launch took place on May 25, 2019. The ship will be handed over to the customer before the end of this year.
This is the second "serial" but third ship in the Project 22220 nuclear icebreaker class. The ships Arktika and Sibir are already in service. Ural is the third ship. And another two ships Yakutiya and Chukotka are in construction.
