The air and artillery portion to soften them up benefits from the mud. Mud keeps ground forces stuck which is good for the side on the defensive against ground offensives... or the side with more heavy long ranged firepower and ground forces in reserve.Apparently Russia has begun their offensive in the Donbas. I get they have a deadline, but the rains haven't stopped in the east yet which will make the terrain slightly...muddy.
This is probably gonna be followed by pinning attacks along the front while the real offensive comes from the pincers.

If they had waited two weeks though Russia would be hard pressed to take achieve their military objectives in time for the May parade, especially since Slovyansk and Kramatorsk are probably being made into fortress cities, and Ukrainian resistance will undoubtedly be extreme.I would have waited two weeks and have taken teh forces from Mauripol as well. oh well. Russia's gonna rush to be Russia.
