Putin Urges Abe to Be Patient in Talks About Islands Seized in WWII...

images

"Russian President Vladimir Putin urged patience in efforts to resolve a territorial dispute with Japan that’s lasted since World War II after Kremlin talks Saturday with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, in a disappointment for the Asian country’s leader, who’s made striking a deal a priority.

“It is important to patiently continue the search for a solution,’’ Putin said. Abe, who’s waged a charm offensive, said Russia and Japan should forge economic cooperation on the four disputed islands to ensure an agreement “acceptable to both nations.’’ Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday, Abe had urged decisive steps to conclude a peace treaty with Russia."

Russia is eyeing this minigun ammo pack straight out of 'Predator'...

"Images have been circulating on Twitter of a Russian Spetsnaz soldier apparently testing out a PKM heavy machine gun with an unusual ammunition-feeding backpack that bears an uncanny resemblance to Jesse Ventura's alien-perforating minigun from Predator. The backpack, known as the Scorpio, is a product of Front Tactical Systems— and according to The Firearm Blog, it was designed at the request of the Russian military as a method of increasing machine gun efficiency.

The United States previously developed a similar system when the inventive U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Vincent Winkowski threw together a backpack-fed machine gun on the battlefield during a firefight with the 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, Iowa National Guard in Afghanistan in October 2011, citing the M-134 backpack-fed minigun touted by Ventura's Sgt. Blain Cooper in the 1987 action classic."

A Royal Navy warship HMS Diamond shadowed a Russian Navy spy ship as it passed through the English Channel along the Cornwall coast.

The Portsmouth-based Type 45 destroyer plus a Wildcat helicopter from 815 Naval Air Squadron at RNAS Yeovilton were dispatched to follow the Russian underwater reconnaissance ship Yantar as it passed Cornwall on Friday.

Tu-22M3M Russian Air Force, with upgraded avionics and the ability to use the precision air-to-surface weapon. 12 Kh-15 or 3 Kh-22 missiles They can carry 12 Kh-15 (Warhead weight 150 kg/331 lb, Speed Mach 5, range 300 km/160 nm) or 3 Kh-22 missiles (Warhead1,000 kg/2,205 lb RDX, range 600 km/320 nm, speed 4.6 Mach). It will be interesting if the new Russian Naval forces will develop in the lines of the Soviet Doctrines, which it looks like. Now it is even more 'interesting' that are voices in China, that want to acquire the Tu 22M3M along its weapons, as and Tu 145, SSNs, like the Akula Class, and other weapons.

China has little use for these bombers and Akula class. Both are outdated and Akula has an equivalent in PLAN and a superior and a successor to that superior which rumours have been circulating for years of its existence and near operation. Russians are welcomed to believe whatever they want. Just because Su-35 was purchased, all of a sudden, every other piece of hardware is being considered by China. It's no mystery now that Chinese military has more or less disclosed at least two projects that fill the bomber/striker role. highly credible leakers suggest one heavy intermediate range and one striker. Both stealthy and both near flying if not well into flight testing. What value does Tu-22 add today that H-6K doesn't more or less satisfy? They're both non-stealthy relics that just lob cruise missiles and drop large capacity of bombs. Both are designed for WW2 to cold war era methods of warfare. Too outdated to meet technologically advanced rivals both nations have adjacent to their borders and USA. Only kept for their range, capacity and ability to air launch several full sized cruise missiles for even greater energy and range.

Any SSN wouldn't be sold to China. Indian case shall not be seen as an example here.
Tu-22m3 deals, when they were relevant(now yes, just too old and too ancient), were directly blocked by Russian military, according to rumors.
Before being excellent nuisance to the US and others(not very good) or even source of money, they are the most suitable weapon system against Russia, extremely dangerous and capable at that.

+as I mentioned before, China already develops something very reminiscent of tu-22 replacement Soviet military once wanted. Just on a qualitively new level.
Too outdated to meet technologically advanced rivals both nations have adjacent to their borders and USA.
Both yes and no.
Technically, yes, they're no longer permitted to go anywhere near AA bubbles.
But their payloads are huge and long ranged, (new x-32 and recently revealed "intermediate" cruise missile), and they're still just as fast.
It was troublesome in times of F-14. Right now or in future, duty of trying to get into position of intercept falls on such planes as Super Hornet or F-35.
And XXII century electronics and all other kinds of stealth matter surprisingly little, when your speed/range/loitering performance isn't up to the task.

Yes surely they have roles in both air forces. Similar reason why B-52s are still around. But the idea of Akula and Tu-22 being exported and purchased is ridiculous at this point in time.
