  • Russian President Vladimir Putin bragged that a new nuclear-powered missile had unlimited range, but it has yet to perform a successful test, according to sources with direct knowledge of a U.S. intelligence report on the weapons program.
  • The cruise missile was tested four times between November 2017 and February 2018, each resulting in a crash.

— but it has yet to perform a successful test over multiple attempts, according to sources with direct knowledge of a U.S. intelligence report on the weapons program.

The cruise missile was tested four times between November and February, each resulting in a crash, according to sources who spoke to CNBC on the condition of anonymity.

The U.S. assessed that the longest test flight lasted just more than two minutes, with the missile flying 22 miles before losing control and crashing. The shortest test lasted four seconds and flew for five miles.

One report, according to the sources, did not mention health or environmental risks posed by damages to the missile's nuclear reactor.

The weapon, which has been in development since the early 2000s, is believed to use a gasoline-powered engine for takeoff before switching to a nuclear-powered one for flight, sources explained to CNBC.

The tests apparently showed that the nuclear-powered heart of the cruise missile failed to initiate and, therefore, the weapon was unable to achieve the indefinite flight Putin had boasted about.

Sources said that the tests were ordered by senior Kremlin officials despite objections from the program's engineers, who voiced concerns that the system was still in its infancy.

During a state of the nation address in March, Putin claimed the cruise missile was capable of delivering a warhead to any point in the world while evading missile defense systems. In the same two-hour speech, Putin touted an arsenal of new hypersonic weapons which he called "invincible."

A week ago, CNBC learned the hypersonic glide vehicle, a weapon the U.S. currently is unable to defend against,

Russia Says Missile Ships Will Stay Near Syria, Challenging U.S. in Middle East and Europe..

"Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Wednesday that warships armed with advanced cruise missiles would be permanently deployed near Syria in the Mediterranean, where rival U.S. military vessels also operate.

Putin made the remarks during a gathering of top military brass, defense industry leaders and economic officials in the city of Sochi. The Russian leader touted his navy's role in maintaining national security and enforcing Moscow's interests abroad, especially in Syria, where Russian warships have helped Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his Iranian allies battle rebels and jihadis attempting to overthrow the Syrian government."

UralVagonZavod shows BMP-3 IFV with 57mm gun
By Dylan Malyasov

1, June, 2018

Russian manufacturer Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) has revealed the video showing a live-fire demonstration of BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle fitted with a new turret armed with a 57mm automatic cannon using gun mount module AU-220M.

The footage shows a new version of infantry fighting vehicle fitted with AU-220M module, which is based on the BMP-3 chassis, and also called the Rys.

The AU-220M turret is designed for armored vehicles, both new and undergoing modernization. New turret armed with a 57mm automatic cannon using gun mount module AU-220M. A 7,62mm coaxial machine gun is mounted to right side of the main armament.

With a phenomenal rate of fire of 300 rounds per minute, and a guaranteed striking range of up to 12 kilometers, the AU-220M’s 57 mm projectile is unlikely to cut through the 1 meter-thick front armor of an Abrams or a Leopard MBT, but even against the heaviest of armor, engineers bet on the hail of high-explosive projectiles knocking out optics, destroying aerials, smashing caterpillar tracks and jamming turrets.

Armed with a new combat turret, BMP-3 is capable of firing from the ground, on the move and afloat.

I am not sure where they are getting 300 rounds per minute the manufactures English page says 80 with 80 rounds for the main gun another 500 for the coax.

hypersonic missile project intended to replace the P-700 Granit anti-ship missiles that are common among Russia’s heavier-hitting warships.

Little is known about the Husky-class submarines. They’re called fifth-generation multipurpose submarines in the Russian press and are being designed by the Malakhit design bureau in St. Petersburg, but there is not yet a finalized version of the boat’s design.

, the Husky class will feature a typical ― or rather typical for Russian subs ― dual-hull design, with a 12,000-ton displacement.

This places the Husky in a similar weight class to the old Soviet-built Akula submarines that the Husky is intended to replace, and the newer Yasen-class multipurpose nuclear boats currently under construction in Russian yards. Yasen began as a late Soviet design that was delayed by the collapse of the Soviet Union and the subsequent decade of economic turbulence in Russia.

The addition of tubes for hypersonic missiles aboard the Husky-class submarines would, if true, come as no surprise. In March, Russian President Vladimir Putin demonstrated an

for the past decade, with a strong emphasis on rejuvenating the aging nuclear submarine fleet. These efforts have so far focused on completing construction of the Borei-class ballistic missile submarines and Yasen-class multipurpose submarines.

Four Borei-class submarines have been completed, with four more on the way.

Two Yasen-class boats have also been launched, and five more are under construction. Construction of the lead boat in the Husky class, according to TASS, is expected to begin in 2023 in Severodvinsk and be completed by the end of 2027. This is likely an optimistic target.
