The Russian Defense Ministry ordered the Vympel Shipyard (Rybinsk) of new buildings for the fleet of the Black Sea, the Baltic Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla.
Two contracts were signed: the first on 2 stars missile of 12421 Project (pictured above) to be delivered in 2018-2019, and the second on 2 ammunition transport vessels of 20360 project (picture below below), with delivery expected in 2019-2020.
The stars actually wears contract on part of a set of 3 units put on hold in 1991-1992 for export, but have never been either completed or delivered. The construction of the seed unit, however, was completed in 2000, the R-32 star to be delivered to the Russian Navy. The ship, however, has never left the shipyard, and it is only recently that it was delivered to the Egyptian Navy (agreement concluded in August 2015 delivery expected in 2016 under the name of Ahmed Fadel). This leaves two units of 12421 project which will therefore be completed under Project 12418 (Office Almaz), under the agreement signed by the Russian Vympel and MINDEF this week. The first will be paid to the fleet in the Black Sea (November 2018), the second in the Baltic fleet (November 2019). These buildings will be equipped with anti-ship missiles Uran.
The second contract is for the construction of ammunition transport vessels for the fleet of the Black Sea that will receive the first unit (2019) and the Baltic Fleet (2020). This is a new program for Vympel who has never built buildings of this project.
Both contracts are quite emblematic of the evolution of the wing and missions of the fleet in the Black Sea and the Baltic. These two "fleets fortress" (especially that of the Black Sea) with limited offshore capabilities, but to provide for logistical support to fleets North Pacific that they have more developed offshore resources. Their buildings regularly attend Mediterranean waters and the supply chain of Russian naval detachment in the Mediterranean is primarily based on the capabilities of the fleet in the Black Sea and the Baltic.
