Interesting. It is the oldest of the six planned (and five built) Typhoons...and it also the last remaining in service. Three were scrapped, one was never finished, and two are decommissioned nd laid up.

I know they made modifications to test the Bulava missiles for the Borei class, but I am pretty sure that that was just to one of its 20 tubes.

It would be news to me that all 20 tubes are Bulava capable.

Forbin? NavyRecon?
Donskoy can carry 20 Bulava in and why not Typhoon can launch SS-N-20 the more big SLBM never build 90t 16 x 2.36 m ! and that's why it's so big ! neverthess US do better with excellent Trident II and with their best technology managed to make a smaller missile with what accuracy for a SLBM in more in 1989, 90 m ! the more accurate ballistic missile remains the ICBM LGM-118 Peacekeeper 40 m amazing but obviously a SLBM is always a little less accurate.

But as Donskoy used only for tests in fact carry only some SLBM, soon the 2 others Typhoon in reserve scrapped.

I would concur!
Change your nickname in US Navy Brat and i want question you so bad hehe :D

I add Typhoon by far are the most " comfortable " Soviet submarine even with relaxing places for the crew, a small pool etc... a luxury for Soviet standard which favors the production number, see radioactivity problem especially !

And Typhoon class have do much deterence patrols/more operational as Yankee or Delta. Soviet Navy have up to 70 SSBN and max about 10 in area, few in fact, USN with 41 had surely clearly more.
7 planned 6 put in service.

Operating the "Armata" tank.

Completely different design philosophy then old cramped Soviet tanks . For comparison, look at inside of T-90 .

About 1,000 Russian Marines begin live firing practice on Caspian
Over 100 pieces of military hardware are involved in the firing practice

MOSCOW, September 10. /TASS/. About one thousand Marines of Russia’s Caspian Flotilla have begun live firing practice, which is part of the surprise combat readiness checks of Russia’s military units in the Central Military District declared earlier this week, Colonel Gennady Gnezdilov, deputy chief of the Russian Navy’s coastal forces said on Thursday.

"The Marines have begun a number of control measures, including live firing practice with the use of standard small arms and weapons mounted on combat vehicles, tactical operations and combat vehicles’ drive tests across rugged terrain, Gnezdilov said.

He said more than 100 pieces of military hardware were involved in the firing practice.

According to earlier reports, about 40 naval and support ships of the Caspian Flotilla left for high seas. Some Marines were moved to the artillery proving ground Pesko and Adanak. A total of 3,000 troops and 120 pieces of military equipment are involved in the combat readiness check on the Caspian.

The surprise combat readiness checks in the Central Military District began last Monday, with aviation from other military districts, airborne troops and military transport aviation taking part. All in all the checks encompass 95,000 troops, 7,000 pieces of military hardware on the ground, and 170 aircraft.

Some 60 Russian surface ships, submarines on duty in world ocean
Among them there are ships organic to the permanent task group in the Mediterranean and those performing combat training missions in other parts of the world

KRONSHTADT, September 10. /TASS/. Some 60 surface ships and submarines of Russia’s Navy are currently on duty in various parts of the World Ocean, the Navy’s commander, Viktor Chirkov, said on Thursday.

"About 60 combat ships of the Russian Navy are simultaneously on duty in the near and remote areas," Chirkov said after the ceremony of unveiling a monument to Russian fleet commander Fyodor Ushakov in Kronshtadt.

"Among them there are ships organic to the permanent task group in the Mediterranean and those performing combat training missions in the Pacific and Northern fleets, in the Arctic and many areas of the world ocean," Chirkov said.

"This amount is well-justified. It is necessary to ensure the fleet should cope with its task of ensuring the stability and security of national interests," he said.

Helmet of the pilot of the Sukhoi PAK FA has become the embodiment of fantasy
Helmets for pilots of the air force, which in the late 90's showed in the sci-Fi Thriller, it has almost become a reality, said Deputy General Director of concern "radio-Electronic technology" (KRET) Igor Nasenkov.

In an interview vestigethat leads to the press service of the state Corporation rostec, and Igor Nasenkov remembered the Russian fighter of the 90-ies of the last century "Blue thunder". There was shown a helmet helicopter pilot with a fantastic for those times opportunities o on the windshield of the helmet all the parameters needed by the pilot to carry out the mission.

"Now these helmets have become a reality, says Igor Nasenkov. - They are developed by our concern for pilots of modern fighter aircraft of the fifth generation PAK-FA and were presented at the exhibition "Army-2015". This helmet replaces multiple devices and is equipped with a large number of sensors. They capture the head movements of the pilot and depending on where he turns his head, projecting points on the information that he needed at the moment. Here comes the function of selecting and targeting and much more. The pilot remains only to press the right buttons on the handle".

The Deputy Director of the group said that has become a reality and another fantastic function - when the points on the helmet of the pilot is projected virtual image of the battlefield, where your troops with one color marked, enemies and other objects of the enemy shall be ranked by grade and immediately are assigned to a particular missile under the wing.

The PAK FA will be equipped with hypersonic missiles
"With regard to the functions of marking a different color, then it's pretty easy to do. Our concern is 90 percent of the market production of a unified system of state radar identification which, for simplicity called "friend or foe". And in all of our military vehicles - land, sea and air are radar interrogators and transponders. So when, for example combat aircraft flying over the battlefield, he works the system Board "Password" or "Guardian" and the pilot who sees the battlefield "his" and who is "alien" and automatically marks them with the right color," the press service cites rostec words Igor Nasenkov.

We will add that now and in other structures of the Russian military-industrial complex are similar. Thus, the development of the technology of augmented reality are now engaged in the Russian Foundation for advanced research.

According to specialists Fund, the technology is most applicable in the Russian air force. It will broadcast on the windshield of the helmet of the pilot of a combat plane or helicopter information that the pilot visually can't have. And this, in turn, will allow, for example, to direct the weapon at the target without hands - a simple turn of the head.
