The Burden of Repairs: The Cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov May Be Sold for Scrap Metal

lThe Russian Defense Ministry may refuse to restore the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, Izvestia has learned. Its repair and modernization have currently been suspended , the publication's sources reported. The Main Command of the Navy and the United Shipbuilding Corporation will soon have to decide the fate of the Russian fleet's flagship. The morally and physically outdated aircraft carrier may be decommissioned and sent for disposal, experts do not rule out. Their opinions on the need to have such ships in the Navy are divided: some say that they are indispensable, while others consider aircraft carriers a relic of the past. Admiral Kuznetsov has been modernized since 2017, and during the repairs, the largest floating dock in the Russian Federation sank, and a major fire occurred on the aircraft carrier.
...
A possible decision to stop the repairs would be absolutely correct, former Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Sergei Avakyants told Izvestia. In his opinion, the Russian Navy does not need the Admiral Kuznetsov even if modernization is carried out.
— In the long term, the Russian Navy does not need aircraft carriers in their classic form. An aircraft carrier is a thing of the past. A huge, expensive structure that can be destroyed in a few minutes by modern weapons, — the admiral believes. — This is a very expensive and ineffective naval weapon. The future belongs to carriers of robotic systems and unmanned aircraft. And if a decision is made not to continue repairs, the only thing left to do is to take the Admiral Kuznetsov, cut it up for scrap metal and dispose of it."

Speaking from China's perspective on this development:

Purely theoretically speaking - China can make the Admiral Kuznetsov into the state of today's Liaoning, but that's redundant. The PLAN of today no longer needs another STOBAR carrier.

The Russians can sell it to China for 1 USD, have China tow the carrier to Dalian just to plug any holes and make the propulsion system barely operational, then have the carrier sail somewhere in the WestPac to serve as a mobile target practice platform for the PLA's various AShMs.

The propulsion system should be all fixed. The problem is there are more things to fix.

Yes. And there's also the fact of her service age.

Technically speaking, Liaoning is only younger than Admiral Kuznetsov by about 3 years (counting from the moment when both ships first hit the water). However, whilst Admiral Kuznetsov has been in service with the Russian Navy since 1995, China's Liaoning has only been in service with the PLAN since 2012.

So that's one ship that has been on the seas for 30 years (including maintenance and overhaul time) while under not-really-good care, whereas her sibling has only been on the seas for 13 years (including maintenance and overhaul time) while under really great care.

Heck, by this point, I suppose not even the Indians would want her anymore even if Russia decides to sell her.

A single carrier isn't going to do much in terms of power projection for Russia, especially with the recent loss of their naval base in Tartus, Syria.

Moreover, the Russian Navy's Su-33 inventory was in bad shape, and in the process of being replaced by the MiG-29K, which isn't exactly the most capable naval fighter.

Russia would not be wrong to scrap the Kuznetsov given the expected ROI: by the time they'd be able to return her to service, combined with the MiG-29K, the Kuznetsov would represent an obsolete capability.

Tartus Port is with UAE. and direction of Unipolarity. If Royals needed Russia can expand it. Russia creating conditions where Royals are in everything.

Cargo Plans still coming from Syria.

The Indian may be interested to receive her as a gift, then Russian will offer to do the upgrade. Sounds familiar?

Not sure what you mean there. Can you please elaborate?

So who is the senior partner in this relationship?

Putin or Emirati royals?

Will Russia retain a permanent military presence in Syria moving forward now that al-Jolani is running the country, and if so, where in Syria?

My point is if Arab Royals need Russian enhance presence in Syria. it will happen. Just like in Africa. Its deep integration into Arabic system.
Obviously name will be be Royals but technical support from Russia. This Aircraft carrier went to Syria i think in 2017 and Libyan leader was only one who came on board. They knew the limitation of carriers. Every thing is done based on Arabic experience and inside Arabic financial system.
