Kolomna Diesel Plant is also the supplier of diesel engines for the Russian Navy. This seems to be some variant of the D500 engine. If this is true then Russia has managed to finally produce this engine from the next generation diesel engine program the Russian state started over a decade ago. Seems to be a medium speed V20 diesel engine with 6.3 MW of power.

TMH supplied a backup diesel generator set for Kursk NPP-2

April 22, 2024

1714265997307.jpeg

JSC Kolomensky Zavod (part of the TMH Energy Solutions company) shipped diesel generator 20EDG500 from the diesel generator set DGU6300 with a capacity of 6300 kW (6.3 MW) for backup power supply of one of the power units of the Kursk NPP - 2.

20EDG500 – the most powerful diesel engine to date produced at the enterprise in its entire history. Its developer is the TMH Engine Engineering Center. The technical and economic characteristics included in the design of 20EDG500 fully comply with the requirements of the customer - the Rosatom State Corporation. The Kolomna Plant engine is comparable to advanced foreign analogues in terms of fuel and oil consumption, service life, and throttle response.

Tests of the diesel generator for the needs of Kursk NPP-2 were carried out with the participation of representatives of the customer (JSC ASE), operating and specialized organizations (JSC VO "Safety", JSC VPO "ZNPP") authorized to control the quality of manufacturing products for the nuclear industry.

TMH and Rosatom are interested in working together to provide nuclear power plants with domestically produced diesel generator sets. The basis for interaction between companies in this area was the agreement on long-term cooperation in the field of diesel generator supplies signed last year on the sidelines of the XII International Forum ATOMEXPO.

Kolomna Plant is the only Russian manufacturer of engines that can be used as part of backup diesel generator sets of nuclear power plants. Kolomna Plant has been producing backup diesel generator sets for nuclear power plants since 2003; they are used, in particular, at the Beloyarsk NPP.

Rosatom placed a large volume of industry orders with the enterprise for diesel generator sets for nuclear power plants under construction, both in Russia and abroad. The diesel generator set is used as a backup source of power supply to consumers for their own needs in the event of emergency situations at the power plant. Currently, the TMH Engine Engineering Center and the Kolomensky Plant are implementing diesel generator sets projects for power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Beloyarsk NPP.

TMH is Russia's largest developer and manufacturer of rolling stock for railway and urban rail transport, as well as medium-speed engines for various purposes. Work on the creation of new models of rolling stock and engines is carried out by the engineering companies TMH Engineering and TMH Engine Engineering Center operating within the TMH group, whose divisions are located in 10 cities and employ a total of more than 1,300 employees.

Kolomna Plant is a unique center of competence for the production of medium-speed engines based on TMH’s own design developments. Since 2018, the company has been implementing a large-scale investment program for the technical re-equipment of production, which in 2023 received additional support at the federal level.

This is a Military Acceptance video showing the first prototype SJ-100 while it was still at the factory:

They replaced the electric cables, APU, avionics, landing gear, with Russian made equipment. Most of the aircraft is made in Russia. The SaM-146 engines are the only major system still using imported components. French Safran made the imported hot section of the engine. But the Russian PD-8 engines to replace the SaM-146 are already installed in the second prototype. They are waiting for the engines to be certified for flight to deliver the second prototype. Probably will require software updates to the FADEC and maybe avionics.

The first prototype, with all the Russian components except for the SaM-146 engine, has already flown from the plant at Komsomolsk-on-Amur to Moscow to conduct tests to certify the new import substituted equipment.

Russia experienced a true "economic renaissance" thanks to this war. Another reason why they are not "hurrying up" anywhere in terms of conducting it IMO.

Direct military spending more than tripled to over $100bn (6 per cent of GDP) relative to the pre-2022 invasion of Ukraine. With over a quarter of Russia’s government expenditure hidden from the public, the actual war-related spending is likely to be substantially higher. Russia now boasts 6,000 military-industrial enterprises, a notable increase from the prewar figure of less than 2,000.

These establishments collectively employ over 3.5mn individuals who operate round-the-clock, with three shifts and six-day workweeks becoming the norm. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the workforce in this sector has expanded significantly, with at least half a million new employees. Additionally, these salaries have surged by 20 per cent to 60 per cent since the onset of the war, and many companies are offering exemptions from the military draft.

Industrial output is also on the rise, propelled by sectors such as metal products, machine building and chemical production. This can be at least partially attributed to the military-industrial complex. Employment, income and tax collection are also all reaping the benefits of the war boom. Regional governments report that this surge is accomplished “by the establishment of new production facilities, including the creation of industrial parks, the development of enterprises, and the creation of a significant number of new jobs.”

Moreover, regions that struggled for years to make ends meet are now experiencing a significant upturn due to the reorientation of production towards the war effort. For Russia’s citizens, the decision to support the war is no longer merely influenced by political rhetoric and propaganda; it is now also driven by pragmatism. At the same time, the shift towards war-related activities is no longer merely a cyclical, short-term policy measure — it has become structural.

While managing a cyclical adjustment might prove challenging, the Bank of Russia is making some efforts to temper the economy by maintaining interest rates at 16 per cent, significantly above the current inflation rate of 7.7 per cent. However, reversing the structural investments made in the war will present a monumental challenge. For decades, Russia has struggled with under-investment and regional inequality, with only a handful of primarily commodity-producing regions being the net contributors to the budget transfer system.

Past national projects and presidential decrees seemed incapable of changing that. However, for now, the war has. Should the authorities attempt to halt militarisation, a hard landing could add pressure to the government, which already resorts to oppression to maintain power. Internal conflicts over limited resources may also intensify. Considering these challenges, it may be the more pragmatic choice for the government to continue militarising. Rather than serving as a constraint, Russia’s economy might become an additional incentive to prolong its war in Ukraine.

"Compared to 2022, the production and refurbishment of tanks at our factories increased by three-and-a-half times, and of lightly armored vehicles by three times,” the Rostec chief said.

The manufacture of self-propelled artillery pieces has increased tenfold, while 14 times more towed guns are being produced, and the production of multiple rocket launch systems (MLRS) has doubled.

The output of ammunition rounds for tanks and infantry fighting vehicles increased by 900%, artillery shells by 600%, and munitions for MLRS by 800%. Three times as many unguided rockets for heavy flamethrower systems are being produced, Chemezov said.

I dont think those employee number correct.

Rostec has 660K employees and they produce substantial revenue from there civilian production. and they are the 80% of weopon that are in actual use. i am sure there indirect employees that supply to rostec but that not easy to quantify as they will have to split up again.
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!
The sphere of competence of the companies that are part of Rostec covers almost all industries: transport, energy, space, medicine. I know that there is progress in the creation of unmanned aerial vehicles and in the field of digital technological solutions. And of course, an extremely important area is the implementation of all relevant tasks related to the state defense order, so that our defenders are provided with equipment and technology.
Today we are one of the largest employers. At the end of 2023, the number of employees of the entire corporation was about 660 thousand people. Last year we hired almost 70 thousand specialists. The company's revenue in 2023 amounted to almost 2.9 trillion rubles. This is a third more than a year earlier.
Almost 80% of the weapons that are used today in the Northern Military District zone were created at the enterprises of our corporation. In 2023, new production aircraft Su-57, Su-35S, Su-34, Su-30SM2, Il-76MD-90A, Yak-130, Ka-52M, Mi-28NM helicopters, tanks were delivered to the main customer - the Ministry of Defense - T-90M “Proryv” and artillery reconnaissance complexes “Penicillin”, other military equipment.
Before the outbreak of hostilities, our share of civilian products was almost 45% - the President set the task of bringing it to 50%, and every defense enterprise should produce civilian products. But today, due to the fact that state defense orders have increased significantly, this share in relative figures has decreased slightly and is about 35–36%.

These Russian MIC companies quite often have an extensive civilian product catalog as well. For example Yakolev make civilian transport airplanes. The same company which makes guns for the BMP-3 turret also makes oil drilling equipment. The same company which makes the T-90 tank also makes railroad cars.

In war time they can switch staff from producing civilian products to military products. And in peace time the opposite can happen.

What is the last news about the MC21.

Last thing I hear is that there is a 100% Russian made certified plane and that they were working on the first 4 serial production planes, but that this serial production planes were delayed.

Is there anything new about this?
