This year has been an extraordinarily cold year in the United States, with a lot of snow and record breaking cold.

The Great Lakes are an extremely important path for commerce into the center of the United States, and for Canada too. Using the St, Lawrence Sea Way, and the industries located all along the Great Lakes themselves, a vast amount of commerce and resource is constantly flowing on these lakes. They are critical for heating oil, petroleum, food supplies, and many other items.

This year has see the Great Lakes covered in ice more than at any time in the last 30 years (so much for Global Warming). As of February, 13, 2014, 88.4% of the Lakes are frozen over.

It is always the case that the great Lakes have ice in the winter months. For this reason, the US Coast Guard operates nine medium ice breakers along the Great Lakes. The Canadian Coast Guard also operates several Ice Breakers on the Great Lakes and the two services often operate together. This year, all of these vessels are getting a lot of extra duty all over the Great Lakes.

They are even having to clear ice all the way down into Chicago, which is the first time for the crews of these ice breakers in their careers.

All this snow coming down, I'm worry about the upcoming flooding that came with it when Spring hits.

In the mid-west, from southern Wisconsin to Illinois and Indiana, they are already talking about flood warnings later this week when temps rise into the 50s.

I think that we are a little over 3 feet of snow right now for this winter. It's snowed this morning and we recieved about 4 inches plus.

The most snow in the history of Cedar Rapids was in 2007-2008 Winter..We had exactly 5 feet(1.5M) in the '07-'08 Winter. This helped lead to the "500 year flood".

I just saw the weather report on Tv and the weather man stated that in Cedar Rapids we've received 38.8(98.5cm) inches of snow since the first snowfall on October 24 2013. Our normal fall-winter snowfall is 31(79cm) inches.

At least the temp is hovering around 32F(0C). That would be a good thing.

How to date a woman, but not just any woman.

A 'real life letter ' to a Houston Press advice column

Dear Willie D. is answered:

Question: I,m a thirty Eight year old man, and I cant date a woman who doesn't have a degree. She cant just have a degree in anything. She has to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer, or something along those lines. I have a masters in accounting, so if Im going to spend quality time with a woman she has to be bringing something to the table to the table besides a pretty face and voluptuous body parts.
My friends have told me my standards are too high, but I just think women who don't have a college degree are dumb. What do you think?

Answer: You have a a masters in accounting, that's incredible. Wow. Hey guys come over here, this guys got a masters in accounting. Yeah accounting I didn't believe it at first either. OMG what if I accidentally asked him something about spreadsheets? I bet hes so tired of talking about spreadsheets. Be cool. Just be cool.

Warning While some of the questions asked are funny enough, the bad language used in some of the replies, makes the column rather trashy.

Anyway I was wondering how many people had similar feelings to the guy above.

I like smart women as well. My wife has a Master's deg. However, this guy is all full of himself. He sounds like he believes that he is the smartest person in the world with a Master's in accounting. And he actually thinks his Master's in accounting can match MDs and engineers? I mean, out of all the post graduate degrees, accounting might be among the easiest ones, no offense to those accountants... I would probably say the same thing as the "answer" posted above. An advanced degree only means you have been a good student, but it says nothing about your capability and future career advancement. And it certainly says nothing about your personality, which is important to finding a potential match. And it is nothing to brag about.

In Russia`s frozen far north, where nomadic families often travel deep into the tundra, medical help isn't always easy to find. That's why the air ambulance service was set up, to be there for injuries, illnesses and pregnancies. Flying a helicopter in these extreme polar weather conditions, that can change by the minute, is quite intense. Meet the courageous flying medics of the Yamal peninsula to witness an everyday story of heroism.

Great video.

If all your associates are uni graduates of one kind or another, then the chances are you will end up marrying one.
However I had a architect cousin who was very good at his work who at the age of 40 married a 18yrold waitress in her fathers restaurant. It was hard to have a long lasting conversation with her before thinking duh. She was extremely attractive though. She dumped him after 23yrs or so but not until she finished bringing up a family of four fantastic children who went on to pursue very successful university qualified professions.
I cant say I blame her because most of my cousins social life meant, him alone being out with his friends quite a few times a week.
