If I remember him right, he is from Singapore. She might want to practice her English conversation skills more than speak Chinese with him.
Since you are willing to pay and since you have a basic grasp of the language already, hiring someone from the mainland to have conversations weekly might work more efficiently than only using apps alone. And only speaking with friends/family who might be reticent about always correcting your general pronunciation/grammar/phrases unlike a professional might extend the amount of time it takes for you to learn to be fluent.
If you like to read for pleasure, I would suggest picking up novels or books that are required or are popular for students in school that are close to the level of your abilities. Optionally, if you liked the novel, afterwards write a small summary of what the text was about and what you specifically liked about it to help your brain reinforce the neural connections. Otherwise, an app would be useful to expand your abilities.
Asian Boss is horrible. They're known for purposely mistranslating Chinese. I remember watching a video where they asked Chinese people about Pakistan, and they translated "religion is important to Pakistani people" to "Pakistani people are controlled by religion" and "their quality of life is not that high at the moment" to "Pakistanis live low-quality lives" or something along those lines.

i only watched some of their videos, some of their videos are good, but some are bad i guess. i have not watched all of their videos.
