Airborne special operations soldiers were among the very first to be issued the new assault rifles. The third image contains an excellent perspective on the new optic, and it also gives a clear view of the buttstock cross-sectional shape.

Drum magazine on the DMR variant? Maybe done to give it some kind of squad automatic role when the occasion calls for it?

Looks like the drum mag from the old gen. weapons. Wonder if they will make a new one just like the new 30 round mag.

The image is too grainy to judge, but it looks different from the old drum magazine. But if it's not, they will have to make a new drum magazine because the old one is designed to slant to the left side so it doesn't interfere with the shooter's right arm when handling a bullpup. The new rifle obviously is not a bullpup anymore, so the slant is no longer needed, and keeping it will simply throw off the balance.

Seems to be the new trend to merge DMR and IAR like US and Russia with their M27 and RPK-16.
they probably going to replace both QJB-95 and QBU-88 with this rifle.
Or that's the long barrel shroud kit for every variant where long barrel is used?

IIRC, current QBZ-95-1 mags are compatible on the new gun as well, that means the "old drum" mag should work with the new gun as well.

If the barrel and handguard between the LSW and DMR variants are the same, and the receiver and the rest of the rifle are also the same, then it is the same gun.
Compared to a standard rifle length QBZ-191, QBU-191 has longer, likely heavier barrel, new and longer handguard, possibly free floated. Those are all modifications that are as appropriate for a DMR as for an LSW.

So I could see the rationale for QBU-191 operating both as an LSW and the DMR role. Swap out the scopes and maybe even the magazine, and the gun can be equally viable in both roles, though of course a standard 30 round magazine is perfectly fine for the LSW role as well.

It wouldn't be dissimilar to the M27 and M38.

Optimally shouldn't LMG use a heavier barrel and DMR match barrel?

Also would it be possible that the LMG fires from open bolt?
