QBZ-191 service rifle family

We've known about the bolt release since its announcement in 2019. Got the same pictures in the early post here. They could've just duct-taped the numbers on the gun with some paper or something if they wanted to hide it.
I'm posting the images here for the user that put the video of SWAT testing the qbz-191, since it seemed he was aware but didn't fully know about it.

I guess that the big huge circle is for censoring the serial numbers. Almost everytime that the qbz-191 is displayed in official media or social networks, it usually gets digitally censored or put some tape. It usually is a bit sophisticated, but the way and the size they placed it so it doesn't show the numbers regardless of how the shooter moves the rifle, gives me the impression that the censoring thing was an aftertought and they were too lazy to make a censor that "follows the rifle". They just used a huge circle that covers the parts trought the video without having to move.

It also seems that there are parts that fully show the serial numbers in the video.

But why the need to censor the serial numbers?

You mean like they haven’t already?
For large equipment numbers can be used to try and determine rate of production. With rifles and firearms though it gets complicated as some batches maybe made out of sequence for specific reasons like batch X00000 being for military use well Y00000 is for law enforcement and Z00000 being export. Ranges of number are used by collectors to determine the actual provenance of weapons decades later.

Water canteens tied to the gun barrels again. Rifles and canteens may see upgrades, but traditions are forever.

The serial number censorship is one of those weird traditions of PLA, one that stems from bureaucracy. Long story short, people don't want to be blamed for not keeping a secret and 保密 is a big requirement, at least back in the days, so when things get released to the public, they censor as much as possible to avoid causing trouble. For example, they'd refer to QBZ191 as "the new rifle" instead of naming it even tho everyone and their moms know what the rifle is. A even worse example of this is some military news reporting from PLA that I've seen around 2017ish that censors the QBZ-95-1 in their pictures since that is "not keeping a secret."

Anyways it is pretty stupid and stems out of the outdated conceptions of how 保密 works, don't need to look more into it. The PLA is changing significantly with how they portray themselves and their equipments in the media, and things are a lot more open than before, but it takes time for people to change. The fact that they half-assed the censorship of the serial number in this video tells you as much as you need to know about this norm.

Anyways, from the video, I think the rifle functions great! You can use the trigger finger to drop the magazine, that is great (we already know this from 2019 but nice to see it in action)! The recoil seems to be pretty minimal, because QBZ-95 does have a bit of a kick from all the videos I've seen. QBZ191 seems to be very controllable on full-auto, which is good, because that actually will make full-auto viable.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of fast fire rate on guns that fire bullets that are more powerful than pistol calibers, a moderate 500 - 700 RPM will make the recoil impulse much more manageable and give you a bit longer time for sustained fire compared to 850 - 1000 RPM guns. It's the shots that hit that count, so reducing the fire rate by a bit and make it a bit easier to control is the way to go, at least in my opinion. Because after all, you'd not be using full auto much anyways unless you're shooting at targets within 50m.

At least they are not using bricks.... Good to see the new guns and equipment being issued, but I hope the training doctrines will follow with the upgrade as well. From what I've seen most PLA infantry soliders issued the new vests are not really wearing them properly. (Another big complaint of mine is how many PLA soldiers don't seem to know how to hold and shoot pistols properly) Hopefully things will change soon, I don't want the PLA to learn these things the hard way in the upcoming armed conflicts, which may happen very soon.

Judging by his replies he also implied he was covering attachments and not just the seriual number of the rifle.

But also he did not have the idea to cover the numbers with tape.

The big pixellated area covers the entire middle receiver including the ejection port, charging handle and overall action of the gun.

We don't know if it was to block the serial numbers from being seen, and we've seen serial numbers of QBZ-191s before.

We've all been doing PLA watching long enough to know that random pixellation happens for things that doesn't always makes sense, including blocking details that had been previously confirmed or clearly photographed -- probably because the people doing it don't care very much and prefer to err on the side of caution.

Here's the video from the link. It would seem the sound does not match the gun. Not sure what's going on there. Audio is included.

Looking at the trajectory of the case ejection, think left hand shooters would much appreciate it...especially the one certain Gun Jesus... /doge
Maybe they don't want the world to know that the serial number is already in seven digit range.

People may start speculating a Taiwan invasion if PLA rush a million rifles.
Think we've at a few years back (definitely before 2019, something between 2017 to 2018, we've discussed that here before but I don't want to go archeological digging here) that the Canadian gun importer for Type 81 said, that the Chinese light firearms industry would have its production quotas allotted to then-new model of AR (i.e. QBZ-191) "for a few years", so for those who keep tabs on it you'd know what that means...and for those who's profession in this field should able to come up with a proper number by this point.
