It's likely to identify who belongs in a squad. Something similar tends to be done with guns, placing color tapes and other elements in them.

So they actually put the QBZ-191 series on display at Zhuhai Airshow? Does that mean the 5.8mm small arms family may put into Norinco export catalog?
Maybe they will make a 5.56 version on request like the type 97.
But surely thats the purpose of the CS/LR17 series of modular rifles. I see that as the export option closest to QBZ 191.

I don't see them exporting the 5.8mm variants. Assuming they want to export these, it could just be that they don't have them chambered for 5.56 yet so they had to show the 5.8 variants.
