Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

Guys, this really is not a thread about how china can defeat usa. Please just keep to the submarine. And let us not tall about twenty years in the future since nobody knows what will happen.

Young Man, the greatest defence is to break up the defence line of Japan, South Korea and United States. If we are going to fight them together, no matter what we have-we will be defeated. Why did we always push the United States to the other sides? Can we also pull Taiwan to our side with their US built F-16's & ships? We fought with Vietnam many times over the centuries. The United States flatted the land of Vietnam. Why should we let the United States use Vietnam to fight us?

要用“不战而屈人之兵”。

I agree completely!

Best to be safe I think -- even by 2030 I wouldn't be confident China can match the US in producing high tech weaponry indigenously.
I mean China can't even produce a decent helicopter at the moment; in twenty years I don't even want to think what kind of weapons the US will have.

Of course China won't match the level of US tech that US will have in 2030. But by 2030, China should be able to build stuff equal to that the US military uses now(example: F-22, B-2, Virginia SSN.):china:

As the regional submarine fleet is increasing rapidly. I don't see the reason for CHina to be joining that competition. Sure she should increase the quality and training of her submarine fleet and pilots, but not increase the number of submarines in term of quantity, like what some one here had suggested (which I feel quite redundant).

In actual fact, China should be focusing also in the ASW aspect of her navy and not join the race to see who had the most submarines.

Who knows? By 2030 Hispanics and blacks will be the majority in the U.S. - there are things beyond your imagination.

Does china have any modern dedicated planes/ships for ASW role?

We wouldn't know a magnitude of things here. But some other things are logical and there was a trend in which we could follow. Taking your example, if the birthrate of Hispanics and blacks are huge now or in a few years earlier and later, and the white stop giving birth, then by 2030, we will see the white becoming miniority... because the old would have died off and there are not enough young to take over...

And so, yes, things are beyond imagination for some things, like Chinese would not overtake US by 2030. Which is highly probable. This is because of current development progress, political stability, overall education level, infrastructure, etc, etc. And unless there is a sudden and very quick decrimental of US as an overall from military to civilian sectors, you will not see the Chinese being able to overtake them by 2030.

I am not sure about this, but china do operate a couple of shipborne helicopters which I believe did carried depth charge or torpedoes... but I am not sure how advance is Chinese's ASW maybe Poyeye would know better.

Two sides of one coin, a new sub entering the service normally means an older one gets retired. Unfortunately nobody seems to pay attention about this simple fact when they are screaming about the "grand PLAN expansion" in quantity.

Not to mention the plain silliness of comparing the total number of PLAN's mainly SSK fleet with the all-nuclear USN counterpart, or the total tonnage from another media frenzy.

Some recent photos of the new 039B submarine. Not much has changed. There is some rumour that there was already an unit of this type launched. However, due to lack of evidence toward that side, I'd have to classify it as rumour.

Whether US can sustain the current level of military expenditure when baby boom generation retires is questionable, at least.
