Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

looks like a plastic model. look at the rails behind the conning tower. they're all slanted. i dont think this is real.
I think it's a bridge leading up to the submarine frm the dock, which is why it's slanted. But that's not saying there's 0% possibility this picture is a PS

the size of the flags are also quite off. for the rope holding toe flags to be so visible at this distance means either the sub is really really small or the rope is really really really thick. i dont doubt that a new sub has been launched but this is definitely not a pic of it. if you ask me this is a plastic model of a kilo hull with the tower of another sub. the proportions are just not right

I agree. This a plastic model. Why do you think they blurred the background?

Do you realize that I posted exactly the same photo just a couplke of posts before. Please try to read unread posts before posting.

As for the photo, let's just wait for a more real looking one to come out.

What is the latest on the Yuan? I heard there is a new version being built with more advanced AIP capability. I also heard rumors that the chinese obtained blueprints of the type 214 from Howaldt Werke in Kiel. Many many chinese in germany. Many many chinese dummy and real companies all over germany particularly in the eastern sector.
Many german startups are also joining hands with chinese. Stark contrast with the US, where almost nothing is happening .

I saw your photo and don't believe they are the exactly same. Yours looks to be at an angle. The one I posted looks like an exact profile. A profile is a more revealing shot to me. The bow is more pronounced.

All of these new pictures appear to be pictures of models, not actual submarines.

Type 214 is designed primarily for littoral zone combat, PLAN on the other hand, are keen to develop larger submarines suitable for carrying out missions deep into the pacific ocean (the likes of Kilo, Oyashio or Collins Class).

Secondly, PLAN has adopted Stirling cycle engine as the method to achieve AIP on conventional submarines, other than the fuel cells used on Type 214. China is actually pretty advanced in fuel cell technology too, judging from civilian products such as BDY automobiles. However, full cells are pretty low on energy density, which makes them unsuitable for larger vessles.

It's assumed future Chinese submarines tend to increase in displacements, even after they get ride of the double pressure hull design. Type 214 is no doubt a highly successful design among smaller submarines, yet PLAN as well as JMSDF or RAN would go for larger and more complex stuff (as a side note, the notion of replaing Collins with Type 214 was rejected by Australians regardless the great cost benefit). There are already noises about PLAN has been working on compact nuclear propulsion designs to power the next generation medium-sized submarines, thus obtaining Type 214 blueprints is pretty unnecessary.

Dear Sirs:

So is this vessel the first of a series of new model, mass-produced Yuans?

Does this mean that this is the end of production for the Song class?

Your comments and explanations are very welcome.
