Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

It's a psychological thing. The Chinese sub was telling the USN "this is our playground and we can do whatever we want. You claim to be the best and see what we can do!" It's a show-off

Because the Us Navy has been data collecting longer , I would say it was a safe enough bet to suggest that at this stage, they know more about the Chinese subs than vice versa. Ive even read claims , that their subs pop in and out of Hainan waters, and the Chinese dont even know they are there.

That could be the case. I'm simply guess the motive behind the action by the Chinese sub...

Love the contradictions in speculations over the years since the incident. One is that China knew where the Kitty Hawk was going so it was just waiting and then surfaced. Suggesting it was lucky it to get into position and take advantage of of silent running which is why it wasn't detected. Another is the Kitty Hawk detected the Song all along. If China knew where the Kitty Hawk was going and just waited until the Kitty Hawk to come along to surface, how was it detected all along especially adding the claim that the Kitty Hawk and her escorts didn't have their sensors on? I'm sure the Royal Navy knew everything they needed to know about a Gotland and they still got sunk. The US Navy leased a Gotland as a result and it's rumored their results were troubling too. Let's speculate. If those results were all in all positive for the US Navy, wouldn't they advertise it? It's like Chinese aircraft carriers. Everyone is trying to discourage China from building one because the main reason is it would instantly get sunk by superior technology of any potential adversary. Why waste time and money on it? Wouldn't the same rules apply for Chinese submarines?

That could be the case. I'm simply guess the motive behind the action by the Chinese sub...

Well they wouldn't need the USS Invincible to do that job if that were the case? Why risk the Chinese gathering their own info. If the US showed that much confidence, and pessimism towards China's capabilities, they would be selling Raptors to Japan.

Futhermore IMO If they Genuinely managed to achieve a technical break through and remain undetected, the capn of the Chinese sub has gone and made the Americans and co aware of this fact, and should be severly reprimanded: Had he been Russian, he would have ended up in the salt mines in Stalin's day:D.

Its all very well discussing about the US Navys submarine warfare capability and weaknesses versus other nations in an exercise and such, but , how would the Chinese submariners compare against its more experienced contemporaries?

Its pretty much a fact that until recently they very rarely embarked on long blue water patrols or engage in such maters at all. I remember coming across a picture of an Old retired Han sub? and according to the english translation it had only done 20000ks, thats llow mileage for a boat. (must be bad translation)

Come to think of it how is the service time of a boat evaluated>Miles travelled or Engine running time, hull condition?.

Miles travelled. For example, HMCS Windsor, the last of the 4 Upholder/Victoria class submarines built, only had 30,000 miles on it at the time of delivery to Canada in 2004. And that was for a boat that was only 15 years old since it was laid down. 30,000 miles may seem like a lot, but in naval ship terms, it's like a spin around the block.

Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

Hey, what do you guys make of the recent US report which says the 094, 093 are all way louder than the victor III and delta III subs?

Cause if it's true then it's pretty damning for the PLAN. All this time I thought the 093 was around the LA class (from sinodefence.com etc), and that 095 was meant to be approaching virginia.

:(:(:(

Here's the chart that went with the report I believe, and it doesn't even show US submarines, only russian ones. The 095 one I believe is just a projected noise level.

I don't know where they got their numbers, but it does raise a lot of questions. First of all, how do they know the quietness level of 095? Why do they say 094 is quieter than 093 when everyone else says it's the other way around. Of course, it's hard to believe that China would not at least develop something at the quietness level of Victor 3. I have to say that due to the mistakes in the other part of the report, i have a lot of doubts about the ONI report.

Here are some reasons I came across at the Key Publishing Naval Sub-Forum -

That's a surprise. I always thought crobato was a man.
Well, I have to tip my hat to her. She's very technically advanced for a lady.
