Re: PLAN submarines Thread II
India operates Kilos, a few German Type-209's and a pair of old Foxtrots. Six Scorpenes are on order from France. Pakistan operates 3 Agosta 90B's and two Agosta 70's, the four old Daphne's having been retired. Neither Bangladesh nor Thailand operate subs, but I had to smile when I tried to open the official Bangladesh Navy web page and my computer gave me a big lurid red lettered warning that opening that site might damage my computer, LOL!
Of course Iran has it's three Kilo's and is reportedly building the Qaaem "semi-heavy submarine", meaning apparently a sub over 1000 tons displacement. The Iranians have a number of mini-subs ranging from 25 to 150 tons.
Regarding the Indian Ocean, one must not ignore Australia's six outstanding Collins class boats, among the two or three best diesel electric classes extant. Most of these are based at Garden Island. Then there are the three Type 1400MOD's of the South African Navy. One must also consider that one or two Israeli Dolphins are out there in the Indian Ocean at all times.
