I don't think the whole thing needs to be raised, just the periscope itself.

If it's the traditional periscope, the whole thing needs to rise.

LA class SSN actually have both...

I was standing on a ship right next to the yellow crane; didn't dare take any photos though. Although in hindsight, the guards didn't really check when you exit, they just open the door to see if you're taking any package out.

The appearance of the new type 093 B conforms with the rumors regarding the induction of such subs and 095 this year. Also, a military magazine recently announced that the original 093 is on the same level of quietness as about the early Los Angeles class submarines, so the improved 093 B one could be even better.

We have confirmed at least 3 094 over satellite photos already. For 093, we have confirmed only 2 at this point + that recently launched one.
