I misunderstood. I thought it was literally a row of 2x12 tubes. OTOH, did you read somewhere that the PLAN actually purchased this type of VLS from Russia?
Nothing reliable.

I simply use them as measure of SAM VLS of +/- similar size to HQ-16.

TBH a rough eyeballing of that graphic should have been sufficient to estimate that the rear VLS installation wouldn't go anywhere near the shafts. BTW, as an FYI the strike length version of the Mk 41 is 7.7m high. The one I drew is actually 7.9m high and sticks out slightly above the deck.

Actually, the VLS with minimal modification would just take up the space that was used by the main gun. Slightly more modification than installing a VLS into the space vacated by the Shtil complex, but not much more, certainly not a vast reconstruction.

You may be right about these, I will not argue against them as I am not very knowledgeable in this area. Just so you know, I won't speak anything before I have read other's words twice at least. :)

DDG Sovremenny 136, 137, 138, 139 perceived views after modernisation. The first DDG 136 Hangzhou has installed VLS... HQ 16 anti-air missiles and also 18 HQ anti-air missiles

Some original items of equipment had been removed, and instead they are replaced by Chinese missiles.......

The rest of the three DDGs will be further upgraded, and will also join the East Fleet..

DDG 136 Hangzhou has a displacement of 8000 ton, 8 supersonic anti-ship missiles, and two sets medium range anti-air missile

The 136 Hangzhou, 137 Fuzhou are the 965E class, 138 Taizhou and 139 Ningbo are the 965EM class....

I would be very surprised if the 136 and 137 received 730s or 1130s amidships as pictured in those CGIs. Those CIWS are fairly tall and would seem to endanger helicopter operations, being located so close to the landing pad. I think it would be more likely for 136/137 to either retain their AK-630s or have their gun CIWS installed at another location, for example where the AK-630 FCRs are currently located. Or not have them at all, since 2 gun CIWS + 2 HHQ-10 launchers seems to be fairly excessive point defense for an 8,000t destroyer. Also, it is impossible for the 136/137 to receive an HHQ-10 launcher on top of the hangar since there is no room for such an emplacement. The 138 and 139 OTOH should have no problem receiving amidships gun CIWS mounts where their Kashtans used to be and an HHQ-10 launcher on top of their hangar. I think it may also be possible to have rear HHQ-10 launchers for all 4 ships on the same platform as the Shtil missile launcher and have enough room to fit a VLS at the same time.

It May not be a bad idea for Russians to send their Sovremenny destroyers to China for upgrades.
The Severnaya Verf shipyards that built the Sovremenny class is still in business, in addition to they've their own upgrade package purposals, the successor - Lider class DDG - is already in the pipeline. The problem that Russians facing is money, with the world's economy in recession and oil price crashed (OPEC still can't get an agreement on how to coordinate members' production quotas, so the oil price still tanked as we speak), the Russian Government can't shell out the needed budget for such work.

Plus, it'd a major injury to Russian's pride...
