Satellite imagery showing the progress of Nanxun (Gaven) Island, from 30 March 2014 through to 30 January 2015. What a pretty sight!
On 30 January 2015, there is already a causeway linking the original structure to the reclaimed island. All these work in 10 months, incredible achievement.

Now THAT, is a GREAT picture and very illustrative of what the PRC is doing to improve their position on the islands they control in the OCS.

Noticed there's a standard template more or less going on.
- A central HQ facility, structures being built on all the reclaimed islands look of a similar architectural design.
- When possible, reclaim the land towards the center of the reef to leverage natural wave breaking protection provided by reef and connect existing outpost via small strip of reclaimed land.
- Dredge harbor facilities on one side of reclaimed land and use dredged material for further reclamation.
Putting aside the political debates, I'm excited to see what type of design will be used to sustain these outposts - any wind generators, wave generators, larger hydroponics, etc etc.

Dunno why I can't edit my last post but would also like to add the thought of whether they would install any defensive measures on the islands such as FL-3000N and/or CIWS 730s? 1130s seem overkill but don't know if 730s have stopped production or not.

Hehe. Maybe 10,000 years from now an Atlantis type legend will have it's alleged location as rumoured being in the South China sea.
I often wonder if the WWII secret Japanese submarine base underneath Itu Aba (Taiping) Island is something similar to Nazi secret submarine base in the Raider of the Lost Ark....
Is anything known about how long the soldiers posted to these south sea outposts stay on duty ?
The expansion of these bases must do wonders for troop morale - I would go stir crazy if I had to stay on one of the original tiny facilities for weeks or months at a time.
