The site at 18 12 38 N 109 33 56 E is probably the main material depot for the construction project. There is a huge accumulation of tetrapods, used for building breakwaters, but the jetty that was the first thing to be built, in January 2009, has not expanded further. They have also been excavating a whole mountain.

The site at 18 12 05 N 109 34 20 E is probably administration and logistic suport.

From 18 12 21 N 109 32 07 E they are building a 1.7 km mole due south.

I do not see any tunnels, and do not think they are doing those any more. There is one at the nuclear submarine base, at 18 12 10 N 109 41 40 E, apparently without an exit tunnel.

Firing positions and ports like right out of a old west US movie and fort. Those walls would work against small arms fire and fighting direct landings, but I hope they have more sturdy bunkers or revetments to take shelter in during any bombardment. Against anything over 30mm attack, or any kind of bombarment, those walls will not hold, or protect them.

And how would you like to be stationed here for a year:

Hehehe...makes Diego Garcia look like paradise! Hope they get a little R&R on occasion ashore some place.

yes, ecxatly - the greens in the middle picture: what are those? just curious :)

They look too narrow to be vehicles to me. They look more like stockpiles of equipment, but not vehicles, and too exposed to be ammunition, under green tarps. There are the shorter ones nearby also.

The newer square shaped facility is far better than the old one next to it, the 5 small round structures on stilts.

I'd hate to be the guy who tossed the basketball too hard. He'd have to go for a swim to get the ball back.

For the daily stuff like meandering fishing boats and rival CG vessels, the setup is adequate. Ultimately, these places are just points of presence, they don't offer any viable means of holding the fort down against heavier firepower. It would be interesting if they did invest in digging out a bunker under the structure, though that could be a nightmare during a storm below sea level. Might be more practical to have a good condition type 037 re-purposed as a "lifeboat" for the fort. I sure hope the rotation is 6 months or less, pretty painful being stuck on a rock for that long.

I am surprise they do not deployment some good size boats (like 200 to 500 ton patrol boats) on permanent basis.

What will they do if they need to investigate something more than swimming distance away or rescure someone fallen into the sea and washed away or a fishing boat in distress?
